My new pet favorite theory about the reunion get this year is Generation X. Billy does have September open and he did play a show with Tony James last year as Generation Sex

Billy Idol is playing the Chicago area July 3 so I doubt it.. is this more reddit nonsense?

It's not based on any credible rumor. It's just something I came up with in idle speculation. You could argue that Gen X and Billy Idol are related artists and that one doesn't necessarily rule the other out, but yeah the Naperville gig does hurt this theory. But really this is just me shooting the shit since we have so little indication who might be playing

This is the first year I’m completely clueless on what to even guess. Besides for the few obvious schedules that line-up with Riot Fest weekend it’s pretty blank. I love it.

Hoped to see Screeching Weasel and Stiff Little Fingers back at Riot, but that's a no on both.
Weasel playing House of Blues in July, Stiff Little Fingers playing Bottom Lounge in October.

Also, it's weird that Screeching Weasel is playing a larger venue than Stiff Little Fingers, right?
The older I get, the worse judge I am of a given bands' popularity.

Almost posted earlier today that there seems to be a whole lot less anticipation for the announcement than last year in this thread (or maybe I'm projecting). Last year really burned some folks out, I think.

Not gonna lie. It's kinda nice to just sit back and say "It'll come when it comes."

I'd imagine that's probably only the case in Chicago. Hometown advantage and all that.

This is probably true. That being said, my prediction: we get a tease 5/21, first wave on 5/22.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Last year we got it on 5/30 (I think?). I remember I was at a Menzingers show in Grand Rapids when it dropped.

I am hoping it drops earlier than 05/30 this year so I can stop obsessing about it a bit earlier. Lol. On average they release about the middle of May so I'm hoping for 05/15 or 05/22

As far as anticipation, well mine is through the roof for reasons I've explained already, and I can say that the Riot Fest reddit has been very active (not as high of quality content as here though), and there seems to be the usual amount of trolls on twitter asking for the lineup

Perhaps a dumb question: Does Riot Fest do a layaway service for tickets? I remember Lolla starting to do it recently and I vaguely remember RF doing something in the past.

Yeah they do, you pay a third of the price +fees right away then you pay again around July and the final fee right before the fest.

Yup. It was May 30th. I was at a New Found Glory Show in Boston pressing refresh repeatedly.

I thought so. Do you remember if it's at a certain price tier? Part of me is like, just break it across three payments, itll be more manageable even if it's a bit more expensive in the long run. But another part of me is telling me to just drop the $135 now. Sigh.

Those Bad Suns dates make them look like a lock. No Chicago date and there's a Sunday hole in the schedule.

  16. I thought the same thing. That gap in the schedule is so perfect. It's not unprecedented (although obviously unlikely) for a band to do both, and they actually seem like a good candidate considering they're on Epitaph and are also picking up steam in the pop world.

I can't remember what tier it was but it ended up being like $180+fees and I signed up for layaway right when they went on sale at the $160 price range

Ah! I missed the Lolla thing. I retract them being a "lock," but they still feel like they may be a possibility given that they aren't a major draw for either festival.

They're gaining steam in that arena? Legit had no idea. Good on them! Their music has been consistently strong since that debut.

It used to be that the presale was a great deal. I remember paying $60 for presale for the 2013 lineup and it went up over twice that at general on sale (maybe not right away, but quicky). Checking recent history though, 2017 presale was $129.98 and general onsale $169, and 2018 presale was $149.98 and general onsale $159.98 (and lets not even speak of the price drop that came later). I think it'll depend on the lineup how much it goes up from $115 but I would be surprised if it's twice that, unless they did snag Foo Fighters or some other big fish

if they booked Foo Fighters, tickets wouldn't still be 115.. be awesome if I was wrong but still

They've never raised presale ticket prices before general onsale, except one year where it was announced it would be a tiered presale. I think they take their best guess at what the lineup for the coming year is going to look like, which they can't be 100% sure in November or December, pick what they think is a fairly discounted presale price, and stick with it. Then at general onsale the price goes up a little or a lot depending on who they actually end up getting. Agree that Foo Fighters are not that likely, I'm just using them as an example of a huge get that would raise the ticket price after presale. I think I keep using them as an example because they are one of the few bands out there and touring and in the general area during Riot Fest

When System of a Down played prices jumped $20 or $30 if I’m not mistaken from what they where the year before

i mean single day tickets for the 2 festivals Foo Fighters are playing the week after Riot over $100 for single days.

Well, we'll see. I'm just saying, a $115 presale this year versus a $150 presale last year does not mean this year's lineup is going to be 25% less stacked than last years. There is not a direct correlation. Very few presale tickets are sold compared to the on sale, it's intended as a gift to the fans mostly.

Weekend GA Passes (all 3 days) of the festival Foo Fighters are playing this weekend are currently $1 lol
