If she makes mistakes she's dumb and it's "unbelievable", if she always makes the right decisions and wins all the time she's a Mary Sue or whatever and also "unbelievable". Oh well.

Why did Danny fly straight at the ships, just to avoid the arrows but didn't fly to the side or from behind and light all the ships on fire?

Also, Dany has a history of making REALLY bad decisions that she ultimately gets out of through pure bloodshed and conquering. I think the only time she's truly outwitted anyone in her journey was when she bought the Unsullied. She's always been a hypocritical conquerer.

Oh yeah, she and Jon are both horrific at what they do. They’re basically like Tommen only they still have their Tywins but for some reason a version of Tywin that never has a better plan.

Dany alone, yes. But, Dany has Tyrion there. He knows enough about King's Landing with experience to avoid an ambush there.

She didn't fly at the ships to avoid the arrows, she was going to try and light them all up but then realized that was a suicide mission and veered off last second to avoid them. The arrows are on turrets so have full 360 coverage so she couldn't just go around them

It's what a lot of the conversation around this aspect of the episode is implying to me. Increasingly more often I've just come to learn that people will never be satisfied with any plot points in any story anymore because the internet has trained everyone to be a cynical nit-pick machine about so many things that just aren't worth the time or effort to criticize. I really don't envy the people who write for popular television shows one bit, having to do a job like that in the present climate of media consumption.

The writing bending over backwards to make Euron an unstoppable killing machine at the expense of other characters is the problem, which we all saw coming after last week ended so abruptly and the preview showed a big focus on him.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but my main complaint about this past episode was the Euron ambush. Dragonstone is way to close to Kings Landing to not send some sort of scout to see if anyone was waiting for them. By either sending a ship in advance or using Vary's network of birds on the mainland, that would of never happened in a realistic scenario.

The writing has not made him out to be an unstoppable killing machine at all. He just has so many clear, logical advantage over them. He was prepared for the ambush with heavy weaponry that Daenerys' army does not possess. He comes from a people whose lives revolve entirely around the sea and naval warfare whereas Daenery's people still aren't fully used to sea travel let alone sea warfare. He's an already formidable opponent who is even more formidable on water.

Yeah, that’s what I mean about at the expense of other characters. They discussed in the episode how much of a threat he is on water. They know Cersei has been working tirelessly to strengthen against them. They know that their strengths are in other areas. But all of the thoughts that would go along with that knowledge get dropped and no one is apparently allowed to question why at all. They’ve been ambushed by him before, recently. The logic of the characters is being handwaved away to force the specific situation happening the way it did. And the fact that it’s coming from a super underdeveloped character doesn’t help it from a satisfaction standpoint.

They're still reeling from the battle against the Night King. They were not prepared enough to make the trip when they did. They assumed that Cersei and Euron would hold the Iron Fleet at King's Landing to establish what would essentially have been an impenetrable blockade. They had no reason to believe there would be portable versions of the Scorpion turrets that could fit on ships. I don't understand why it's so farfetched for them to have simply made a mistake and gotten punished for it.

And back to the original point, if they had perfectly anticipated the ambush and sunk Euron's entire fleet, everyone today would be complaining about how easy it was to defeat Euron and how underutilized he was as a villain and how one-sided and not as good the battle at King's Landing would be without the Iron Fleet.

And also, people are allowed to question whatever they want, just like other people are allowed to push back against those questions all they want.

Rhaegal (RIP Good boi) wasn't trying to avoid them, though....he was flying in one direction. Drogon charged straight at them and then bailed out of the way at the last second

  25. My head fan fiction would have done the Euron thing like this maybe:

    -Send advanced party
-Advanced party knows Euron is there and reports back to Dany
-Dany is reeling from the loss of Jorah. She is contending with the Jon reveal. She has been making poor choices. She decides to move forward anyway.
    -Euron kills dragon.
    -Rest of episode proceeds.
