Daniel Ramano is good, but he lost me when he moved away from his country sound. His new material is not not so great.

S Lazy H is one of my all time favorite country songs.

 

This is heartening! Canada makes some of the best non-commercial country around and it fills me with pride. Corb is from my area and he's a cult hero of sorts.

Daniel Romano & Ancient Shapes is one of the best no-bullshit punk records I've heard in recent memory and seeing him do it live was even better but I do like the country material more than his recent albums even though I do enjoy them. He channels the soul of country better than he does mod rock and the other stuff he's done.

 

Yeah, I haven't really been feeling the recent Daniel Romano albums either. They're not bad really, but...he's too good at country to not play it anymore. Corb Lund is definitely one of my favorites though. "I Wanna Be in the Calvary" is one of the few times a song has given me two different types of chills in two different versions ha.

 

I knew this thread was cool.

 

Damn this acoustic Donovan is great and this just reaffirms my opinion that Tenille Townes should stick to acoustic stuff.

 

Wow, song "Front Porch" by Joy Williams is a gorgeous song

 

Whole album really is so good; glad she returned to this style

Any recommendations as to where to start with Dolly Parton?

I have a greatest hits somewhere, but I can’t imagine that would be the best start. Plus I already know many of the hits anyway.

 

I slept on this Joy Williams album but man is it gorgeous.

 

Workin' For The Music Man is an all time favorite of mine

 

One of my favorites of the year. I didn't like her last solo LP at all, but this one recaptures a lot of what I loved about The Civil Wars.

 

really liking this new molly tuttle album.

 

Marriage is one of my favourite albums ever. I like Romano's solo stuff enough, agreed that earlier is better, and I liked Ancient Shapes, but I'd kill to get another record that sounded like Marriage. AIB didn't even really keep that sound on the following records.

 

Marriage is an underrated Canadian masterpiece. Their folky stuff after definitely hinted at the path Romano would take though.

Looks like I missed the little acoustic EP Courtney Marie Andrews released. I think she's underrated around here.

 

I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is my favorite song I’ve heard this year. My goodness. So excited.

 

Yes! His debut album Seneca isn’t getting enough credit. It’s phenomenal.

Coal Country and Seneca Creek is just great songwriting.

The new Justin Townes Earle is out today and it’s awesome.

Also just realized that Midnight at the Movies was 10 years old this year so I gave it a listen too this morning. That album is still a classic in my eyes.

 

There's no wrong answer to this but here are my favorite albums of hers:

Coat of Many Colors is her most essential work IMO.
