I'm pretty entertained by bachna's posts.

Can we talk about why Dustin signature Music Man guitar is like $2500?

Wow. As much as I love the greatest singer-songwriter of the last 20 years, I'd rather put my dollars toward models that are tried and true (especially in terms of resale).

You can buy a high end Fender for that kind of money and still have change left.

Lol, I’d probably have manchorch higher at this point too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But thrice is still top tier

They don't have a Teppei. We have the greatest lead guitarist in our particular scene.

The funny thing, apparently Robert is an incredible guitarist but he just is really retrained in the band. Man Andy prince is an amazing bassist but very different style than Ed, also tim very is a sick drummer but again very restrained in Manchester.

Emery in the same breath as thrice feels like blasphemy.
I know that is opinion. But man it feels like fact.

Shrug, I can go into major detail how from a technical stand point emery is just as good. Their vocalists are classically trained, their guitarist understands theory and uses far better chord voicings/harmony. But in the end it’s a taste thing. I have both bands extremely high on my all time list, it would be really hard for me to pick one over the other. Also I don’t expect other people to feel the same way about the band as I do. But I’m sure @The Mysterious and @awakeohsleeper would agree with me! Haha

    I do not exist.

I'd happily choose Emery over Thrice in terms of music, but I prefer their sound overall, mainly due to the way Toby & Devin work off each other vocally. It's a subjective taste thing. I'm not as technical as though so can't comment there, but I'd also happily accept that Thrice are the 'bigger' and more 'significant' band for the scene.

I'd take mewithoutYou over both of them though.

The technical argument doesn’t mean a whole lot tho. In the end it is taste around how it sounds.
Ton of great music that you could learn how to play in 30 minutes.

Mewithoutyou and ManOrchs latest output definitely outshine what thrice has done lately. So much more experimental.

Anyways, More power to you teebs. I just think it is a very hot take that might be held by the 3 people tagged in the post. Ha

I disagree. But you’re absolutely right, tastes can be different, so I’m that sense I agree.

Thrice has experimented and evolve beyond recognition, while remaining totally awesome, which is so hard to to do. I’d still say there was no song released that year that was better than Beyond The Pines.

As a big Manchester Orchestra and Andy fan, his most experimental work wasn’t even MO, Right Away, Bad Books, or solo, it was his work with Robert on a film score. I go back to Black Mike a lot less, and to me there are better songs on earlier albums by them. It doesn’t mean Black Mile
Isn’t good, it just doesn’t evoke the same feeling as Like a Virgin or Mean Everything.

So it’s taste. I’m sure a lot of people think Black Mile was Andy’s best work to date, but sometimes that reflects when you started listening to a band. Palms was not even close to my favourite Thrice record either. These two bands are still in elite class to me, so it kinda like as long as they keep releasing albums I’m happy.

You can totally disagree without trying to start something because it’s just an opinion. And really, I hope people like lots of different bands for different reasons. I think some of the things I like most about MO have slipped away out of their new music. That may mean they slipped more into what you liked about them though.

So my gut tells me no. But time will tell if I did it in time.

Seems to be sold out now.

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

Eve was far more interesting to me than Palms at this stage in both bands' careers, tbh. Mostly due to Devin back on the writing block full-time. Dustin's voice is aging like a fine wine, Eddie's bass work was great, and the band basically cornered the market on guitar tone...but man, that album just had zero replay value for me after the first week or two. The song formats (not the songs themselves) felt uninspired and too chorus-driven. Where as, with Eve, some of what I would guess both of our collective favorite moments on the album are the hybrid/compound song structures. You can't predict the time signatures in a lot of these songs, or where they're going with vocals/harmonies on the next measure, Emery at this point is just fun to listen to. The end of Is This The Real Life, or the climax of Safe, Shame, the random pop-punk break in the middle of People Always Ask.

I'll say this again: Teppei is the most talented person in our scene. The dude can even make custom oven mitts.
