So many feelings. They stuck the landing, though – and ultimately that's what mattered. I made (albeit poorly) some Avengers tissue boxes to pass down our rows, we had 23 people in our group and it was a coordinated effort between 4 people to get up at 4:30AM the day tickets went on sale. We're seeing it in IMAX tomorrow.

My thoughts (entirely in spoiler case… just in case)
    1. I (and many) called how the movie would open, but it was still so great.
[*]Holy crap, they weren't kidding, we barely got any footage from the end of the film, and lots wasn't even used, etc.
[*]The shot of all the women teaming up was incredible. My god. Our group of 23 was pretty evenly split, as was the rest of the theater, and it just exploded with applause. Granted, SF is generally pretty progressive, so I wasn't surprised that representation was met with positivity, but it was still a good feeling.
[*]I think Captain Marvel was used the perfect amount. Her time battling Thanos at the beginning and end was so fun, and she was just powerful enough to turn the tables. This made me love her even more.
[*]I didn't actually expect some of those deaths/sendoffs. Legitimately thought Tony would live/retire, but that surprise gave so much more gravity to the fight and sacrifice he made.
[*]Gutted by the Black Widow death. I knew a sacrifice death switch was inevitable given that stone (and route to obtaining it) wouldn't change. I was hoping her and Bruce would end up together, but once again – surprises like that make the story and sacrifice that much more powerful.
[*]The gag with Thor got old at points, but I'm glad he still had action in the end and his character still had purpose. It was similar to the performance issues Bruce suffered in Infinity War. Hulk got some action at the beginning, and then floundered until the third act where he shines. We got that with Thor here, and it worked here too.
[*]I successfully avoided the leaked scene, and when my friend told me which scene it was after the film ended, I'm so glad I did. I had a feeling it might go that way from all the YouTube theories I've watched over the last year, but I still am glad I saw it play out with the entire film.
[*]The one WTF I had from the whole time travel heist/scenario as it resolves itself – how the literal hell does everyone who went undusted age 5 years, but all of Peter Parker's classmates appear to be the same age? Wouldn't they be in college at this point when everyone comes back? I ultimately don't really care, it's a comic book/superhero movie, not everything has to make sense, but it feels like they could make some good gags out of this in Far From Home.

Agree so much. After Avengers, I saw every Marvel movie 2-3 times in theaters (except for Dark World and Dr. Strange.) I’m so pumped to go tomorrow and see other people react on their first viewing.

THANK YOU, i was wondering who that was!!!

i am an absolute idiot and thought my showing i had a ticket for was an hour later than it was and realized it started at 6pm, NOT 7pm, as it was 6:02pm and ended up 20 minutes late :(
still loved everything i saw. i came in the theater as Tony was on the ship saying those lines we saw in the trailer. i entered almost exactly as he was saying "i know we said no more surprises," what happened before that?

Easily the best "Avengers" movie, & easily the best Russos movie, though not the best Marvel movie. But, a very different, very special Marvel experience unlike any other.

The tone & pacing were perfect. Not much action until it was time for all of the action, which felt so refreshing after the tediousness of Infinity War (which, man, I just cannot imagine having to sit through again at this point). This, meanwhile, could've been longer & still worked.

People are gonna obsess over the time travel & timeline junk, the aftermath of the Snap, the Infinity Stones, etc., which all breaks down if you think too hard about it. But, like, it's comics. Nothing makes sense, nothing matter. I can't really explain why that kinda thing matters sometimes & not other times, but I really don't care. That just feels like completely the wrong thing to think about in this film, instead of character arcs.

I'm pretty happy with both Tony's death & Natasha's. Both felt appropriate. Also happy they didn't kill Steve; glad, after saying for so long that his story didn't need to end in death, that Marvel agreed.

Also, after hearing a couple different press interviews with the Russos where they were asked about the future of Marvel & answered by mentioning growing diversity... I'm glad they made the right choice by having Steve give Sam his shield. We'll see when & how that actually becomes anything (so smart to not have a new Avengers team at the end).

Just got out. You can’t compare this movie to literally any other film, given the surrounding context. It’s the most audacious blockbuster that’s ever been attempted from a writing and production standpoint, and the sheer number of turns it takes and narrative justifications it just assumes you’ll understand from the previous 20+ movies is insane. That its plotting works at all as a macro-conclusion is stunning.... the fact that they’re able to evoke so much emotion at the same time is proof of truly masterful work.

What a thrilling experiment; I’ll absolutely be seeing it again in theaters soon.

Loved the movie and don't really care about time travel inconsistency issues, but there is something I've ben mulling over since I got out. Going off the rules set up in the film it doesn't make sense for Steve to be an old man in that timeline. Right? The timeline where he lives with Peggy would be separate and wouldn't intersect with the one we've been on for 10+ years. Please correct me if my logic is flawed though!

  17. Loved it. What a satisfying ending to an unprecedented series of movies. Cap with the hammer had me so hype. He's my favorite Avenger so it was great to see him get all his moments. Particularly loved the shot of him standing up alone and facing all of Thanos' army (Battle of the Bastards vibes). Also, don't think I've seen anyone mention this, how great was Scarlet Witch going toe to toe with Thanos?!?! She's another one of my favorites, so I loved that.

Sounds like I'm the minority in this, but my first impression is that I like Infinity War more. Watched it the other day in prep and I still love every minute of that movie. With this one, I felt the length during some of the middle parts, but maybe it's just the first-watch jitters and I'll be able to embrace it more fully on my next watch.

My theater was pretty subdued and then fucking MARKED OUT during the final battle at every great moment. I lost my fucking shit when he uses the hammer.

Yeah the movie wants to have it both ways with the Cap thing. They want it to not matter that past Nebula is dead but present Nebula doesn’t die as well, or that past Thanos has been dusted so the original snap could never have taken place, but then they want it to be possible for Steve to have gone back in time and aged forward with Peggy. It just is what it is, the rest of the movie was so good that I’m personally ok overlooking stuff like that (even though all of these issues would’ve been easy enough to write around).
