They have sooooo many amazing songs in the last 2 albums though. That is a tall order.

 

It's a damn good song. I like Hold Up A Light more than most people here but it is wayyyyyy more generic than Whistleblower or even most of TBEITBN

 

How can you say stuff like best band ever and basically dismiss a record by a band in the same day?

So confused by that, but to each their own.

 

(I think Mike J only dislikes TAITA because the band has said bad things about in the past and he wants to be a "real Thrice fan" and agree with everything they say)

Sorry, but that's the only possible reason I can think of for him saying it's bad.

Or, I was disappointed immediately after my friends and I received an advanced listen at Active. Had the songs been produced in a way that reflects the actual sound of the band, who knows how I'd feel. Illusion is still the better representation of the band's sound during that phase of their career. They may be the best band alive, but they're still susceptible to the people around them, especially back then.

 

Not liking the production on an album and not liking an album/era of songs is different in general.

I don’t know much on the technical side of production, just what sounds good or sounds off/weird/flat.

 

No way Illusion is better than TAITA but hey to each their own Meme J

 

Was the advanced listen just demos?

 

Plot twist: Mike J has only heard demos of the album and never the actual album. Now that would be something!

I know it's probably not the case.

 

You listed Paper Tigers, you stay out of this.

 

To Awake and Avenge the Dead is better than anything on Artist, but Artist is overall better.

 

I was wondering when someone would call me out on that. The album is great, I just don't really care for that particular track.

 

Confirmed Mike J has never listened to Thrice.

First one I've seen that broke my heart

The band was as hot as ever at that point and you as a huge fan, disappointment was your first reaction to Under A Killing Moon, Paper Tigers and Silhouette and all the other bangers on the disc? I don't buy it.

You bringing up the band not liking the production again hammers in the point that it influenced you later on. It sucks you can't enjoy a great album but......

 

Artist was written in 5 minutes (which you can hear) and it sounds hollow since Island's thugs butchered it after the fact. You can disagree with me, but just know I've been saying this since long before the band echoed the very same sentiments.

 

It was the finished record, since it's been well established that bands sit on their records for 3-6 months until release.

 

Illusion was a giant leap forward for Thrice; Artist was them running in pace or treading water. And as I've established before, most of you who argue with me about TAITA happened to discover the band during TAITA. It was your first exposure to the band so of course that record can do no wrong in your mind. As a fan since 1999, I had perspective that most of you didn't have upon TAITA's release. The feelings I had after listening to IC and Illusion for the first time weren't there via TAITA, with the exception of Abolition. They returned with a fury during Vheissu, as Thrice made another Illusion-like leap.
