Hahaha I've been watching the NHL for 24 years and have been playing the EA Sports games since 1999 so I've been well aware of this for years. It was a pretty big trade during the 05-06 season.

This was my first full year watching extensively. I became a Sabres fan at the age of 8 during the 1994-1995 lockout shortened season, and watched as many games as I could as a kid/teenager, including the playoffs. The 04-05 lockout was my senior year of high school, so when the league resumed for the 2005-2006 season when I first started college I became even more fully invested in the Sabres and the league as a whole.
