I used to be really adamant about not checking if it was for a band I know all the songs too because I love the surprise, but at this point I’ve seen them all before and I like to look so I can make a playlist and get hyped for the songs I’m gonna see instead of getting let down.

Occasionally I’ll let myself be surprised. All Time Low did some Christmas shows in December and my friend looked at the setlist the night before ours and said I was going to die, so I refrained from checking that and it was so worth it because the last like 7 songs was a dream:
All Time Low Setlist at The Rave, Milwaukee

For artists I’m less familiar with, who I know a couple albums well but not all of them, who I recently started listening to, etc. I always look. It’s way more fun when you know all the songs.

When I first started going to shows, I would just listen to all the bands music to get familiar, but that got less realistic the older I got and the more shows I started going to.

Yeah theres nothing worse than getting super into a song after you see it live, and then they never play it again

I could definitely see that happening

Yeah the only time I look up setlists is if I’m debating whether or not I want to see someone or if I don’t know that much of their discography

I'm trying to look less too. The best is when you go to the first night of a tour (or a one-off) so you don't even have the option. I think that's only happened to me like 4 times out of the 200+ concerts I've been to.

I only go to concerts to stare at setlist.fm while the band plays.

I can think of 2 time I was happy I didn't know a setlist beforehand

State Champs holiday show in December where they played Shades of Gray

Senses Fail playing Free Fall Without A Parachute last March with no rhyme or reason to

Both were just markout moments and unreal surprise plays of all time for me

Jimmy randomly played “Ten” when I saw them in my college town. It was the only time they’ve played it for a long rime

The second night of Alkaline Trio at Metro this year the entire set being a surprise and all a shock to me made it so much better. I typically don't like knowing setlists anymore

I think it depends how much you know the bands catalog. If I'm a casual listener then I like to look ahead of time, but if it's an all time favorite then I like it to be a surprise.

For festivals like Warped I'm way more likely to look at setlists, it helps me make decisions about who I want to see.

Could totally see that happening. They are friends with the guys in HB and Wayne teched for them awhile back when Hatebreed was on a mini hiatus. That being said. This is a tour I would probably lose my teeth at.

I like to know setlists so that I know how worth it a tour is for me to attend. For example, the latest DGD tour had a ton of bands I wasn’t too knowledgeable about, but if DGD’s set was like 15 songs and had music from all through their career, I probably would have attended. Instead it has like one or two songs pre-Mothership, and it’s not really a super lengthy set anyway so the setlist online saved me from wasting money.

Another example of why I like setlist.fm would be the Senses Fail / Amity Affliction tour. I’m a super casual Amity Affliction fan, so I wanted to see when they played certain singles to see if it was really worth it for me to stay. Ultimately, I left before they went on stage because of it.

I am at a point with a few artists where I’ve seen them so many times that I can afford to miss a tour here and there if the tour isn’t stacked and the band I’m going to see is playing the same setlist that they always play. I think it’s exciting going to shows without the option of knowing what I’m going to hear, but for some artists it’s really necessary for me.

Also, keep in mind sometimes when I’m debating on a tour where the band I want to see isn’t headlining. Should I really pull the trigger on $40 tickets when the band I want to see only ends up playing 7 songs? Setlist.fm helps me make those decisions!

Thing about Do Division though is that’s it’s basically Chicago’s first somewhat big street fest of the year so everyone flocks there and it turns into a mess.

Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs is another good get

  16. I’ve never been to Do Division, but is it really crazier than Wicker Park Fest? Moving between stages there is awful after like 8:00 PM. Regardless I’ll want to catch Laura Stevenson and Russian Circles.

I think it's more of a matter of Do Division being in a smaller location than WPF. That and being shocked at how many people live in the city for the first time during the summer lol.

I know the first 6 people playing each date. From there my brain gets a little hazy.
