yep highly anticipating this. First season will be ten episodes it looks like.

 

Finally got around to watching the original film last week. It's pretty crazy, in retrospect, that a studio entrusted a popular novelist with writing and directing a major feature film like that. Nothing of that sort would ever happen today; we're lucky if a novelist is even allowed to write the screenplay for an adaptation of his or her work, let alone write and direct an original screenplay.

Definitely check it out, though. It's one of the most unique, odd films I've ever seen. On the one hand, it comes from that 1970's sci-fi world that, at the time, was revolutionary but today seems quite tame (hence the HBO-ification of it). On the other hand, the strange tonal shifts, the deeply unsettling implications of this world, and the knowledge of something preparing to go horribly wrong all create a tenseness that makes the film's final half hour or so pretty thrilling.

Can't wait for the series now.
