I'm most excited for the morning news show and Kumail and Emily's show

 

Apple Arcade is really good branding and actually seems really cool. In hearing about it I was on the fence, but after the presentation, I’m definitely interested.

 

So did I miss something, did they mention anything about how their new original shows work? Subscription fee? Pay for individual shows? Free for people with an IOS device? Either way I guess, if all that stuff about Apple forcing all their shows to be like PG rated I'm not sure how interested I am in them anyway.

 

Wait is that a thing? They're only allowing PG?

I’m already going to start paying for Disney+ this fall so I don’t think I’ll be subscribing to Apple as well unless they have some big stuff announced soon.

'PG' isn't the term I'd use at all, but it definitely sounds like they want some kind of censorship with their original content.

 

Well maybe not strictly PG but there's been plenty of articles about shows being rejected (like a Dr Dre one for being too violent), them asking to tone down some jokes on the Reese Witherspoon show, etc.

I do like that you can download original content, it’s ad free, and the Spielberg show. The main selling point for me will be the monthly cost. If it’s more than $15 then nope.

 

I have quite a few of scripts for their shows and most of them are decent enough. I'll be curious to see how they turn out and what the reaction is.

I think one that hasn't been announced yet was co-written by Jason Sudeikis and starring him.

Very Brief Thoughts and Observations on Today’s ‘Show Time’ Apple Event

 

• APPLE CARD: Sounds good, but “low interest rate” is just words. I’d like to see the actual numbers. Kind of interesting that you get 2% cash back on Apple Pay purchases and only 1% when you use the actual card. UPDATE: Footnote 4 on the Apple Card web page says: “Variable APRs range from 13.24% to 24.24% based on creditworthiness. Rates as of March 2019.” What a crock of shit this “low interest rates” line is. Those interest rates are usury, right in line with the rest of the credit card industry. 24% interest ought to be criminal, and 13% is not “low”.

This is the exact outcome I expected, and adds to the reasons I hate that this card will exist.

 

IIRC: Elizabeth Warren has been trying to get legislation passed for years to make rates that high illegal.

 

Ehhhh gotta disagree with Gruber here lol. Stadia has pretty incredible implications for the industry at large, and there's a colossal distance between the indie stuff Apple showed today and the AAA partners Google showed off at GDC. I didn't really see them as competing products, but even if you were to line them up against each other, Stadia is a much bigger deal for video games than Apple's thing is.
