"Hey I'm Sorry" is a gem.

The rest of that DLX album shows potential, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's good.

Bottom Of The Ocean, Last Train Home, & Don't Mean Anything show the direction I think they could successfully take going forward, but the songwriting isn't as fleshed out as it should be. Wildfire is a throwback bop, but it's really more of a sad reminder of how hard it is for these guys to do a classic-style blink song, and the lyrics try SO HARD to be edgy.

Ultimately I think if they just flesh out the songs & instrumentation more & Feldmann goes for a less minimalist production style we could get something truly great this time.

Hey I remember when System of a Down wrote 33 songs for Toxicity, and between that album, the internet demos, and Steal This Album we got a lotttt it new SOAD.

And then they went and followed that up with a double album that debuted at #1 6 months apart so

As for Cali Delux, I love 6-8 and Misery. Misery especially is awesome, reminds me of a great mix of Alkaline Trio and Blink

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I think Misery, 6/8, Long Lost Feeling (this would have hella good notices if it had been the album closer) and Hey I'm Sorry ( that Skiba prechorus yo) are downright incredible. basically the direction I wanted the album to go. Parking Lot, Wildfire and Ocean are good although not on the same level/have their flaws. Good Old Days and Don't Mean Anything are pretty bad, but no worse than some of the album regular's worst moments.

EDIT: I forgot Last Train Home which is top 5 with Skiba so far too

Haha dlx seem to be pretty divisive. I like good old days, 6/8, and Hey I'm sorry. I can't stand misery and dont mean anything. The rest is meh.

    OG California is better.

  6. Listening to CA/DLX while working late. Listening on some good studio headphones. Heard some dope guitar work from Skiba on “Last Train Home” in the right channel around 1:20 in the pre-chorus. A little palm muted clean 32nd note diddy. There’s lots of good stuff like that at the end of BTD I think that took me over a year to find. I wish that stuff didn’t get lost in the mix

I like the deluxe a lot. Misery, 6/8, Good Old Days, Hey I’m Sorry, Last Train Home, and Long Lost Feeling are gems.

It doesn’t beat OG California, but seeing as how it’s a deluxe and the deluxe songs are meant to be bonus treats idk why people judge the deluxe songs as if they’re full fledged songs. They didn’t make the album for a reason the first go around (though a couple should have)

  8. I thought they wrote all of (or most of) the deluxe songs after the Cali sessions. I know “Hey I’m Sorry” was a leftover, at least.

What do you mean they aren’t are all “full fledged songs” though?

IIRC, only Parking Lot, Misery, and Wildfire were written after the California sessions. The rest were from before or during the California sessions.

What I mean is they are obviously not the best versions of those songs the band wanted to make, or they weren’t the direction they wanted to go. Maybe full fledged songs isn’t the phrase I’m looking for

    Things have changed.

I don’t think we need to make excuses for them. If they didn’t think the songs were good enough to release, they wouldn’t have. They clearly did, so they should be judged as such.

Cali and deluxe are both just okay but Cali has two or three songs that are really good and deluxe only has one

I’ll take California and Deluxe over tho inactive hiatus era any day.

I also love the high volume of songs released. If they have them, like them, then release them. Please.

This is what I love about the untitled record so much. I don’t want them to try to recapture that sound by any means, but it has a lot of qualities that I really want to hear out of them again. They kept a lot of the sound from previous records and still maintained a lot of the catchiness/pop elements they are known for, but they tried to mix up the song structures and add some different tricks to each song to keep them just a tad bit unpredictable.

Like I said, I don’t want them to regress or recreate a previous record, but just the idea of finding that balance between innovation and doing what they did best on California could be great. It doesn’t have to be some huge departure in sound, just sharpen up the parts of California that were lacking.

California was their first record with Matt though. Judging it against years of recording with Tom, people need to give them a break. Also, they had years of working with the same producer in Jerry Now they are working with someone new in John.

I listened to self titled and Dog Eating Dogs Ep last week. Dogs Eating Dogs doesn’t have as many songs stick with me. Self titled feels repetitive vocally at times too. Self titled is a really memorable record musically.

As long as they keep working hard to make a good product they are proud of.

The video itself didn’t give us anything, just his usual rambling of what TTS has done and will do.

However, it was the closest thing to Tom opening up about his personal life. He came off as a human at the end, which is something which typically hasn’t been like him in years. There are all sorts of rumors and speculations around his personal life, but him opening up about turning to riding to offset his issues came off as human and genuine ... not a sales pitch. As much as I’ll shit on him as a blink/AVA fan and will be the first to critique anything he does, I do hope his mental health is okay.

  20. All of this. I actually felt this at the first TTS book meetup thing for the poet Anderson book. He was very open about his vision and goals and it really brought him down to earth. It’s easy to forget that sometimes.

Blink should definitely do this sort of version. I said the same thing last week...It seems like a Blink song remixed by Steve Aoki.
