Olney's job is to speak. Doesn't even matter if it's right/accurate/within the realm of reason. I wouldn't spend too much time pondering it. I have to believe the Cubs will make the correct decision when the time comes. Of course, KB is a Boras client, who knows how amenable they'll be to an extension before FA or what kind of asking price they'll have when he's 30.

I am pretty sure it negates it, since the contract will eat up all his arb years plus some.

 

So they're basically giving him something, which if he plays up to talent will still significant underpays him until he's 28.
