Did anyone ever delve into why the Orioles hate using their intnl pool so much?

I was honestly kind of excited for this season, knowing the team would suck but having potentially a healthy Miggy as well as hopefully a better Niko Goodrum, maybe a prospect coming up to play, Josh Harrison... I couldn’t even tell you the Tigers rotation, and now I could maybe name two pitchers in it with Fulmer being done.

 

Now I really hope Boyd and Norris pan out. Or at least become watchable.

 

In the past they had no international presence so they would just trade away their pool money. Last season when they traded away a bunch of guys they stockpiled a ton of pool money and announced they were actually going to make an effort internationally, but despite having more pool than any other team they weren't able to sign Victor Victor Mesa or Sandy Gaston, who were like the last remaining interesting international prospects for this signing period.

Now they've hired a new regime that is left holding a ton of pool money with no one to spend it on. As of the beginning of July it goes away and every team starts the new period with an equal pool allotment, so now they're basically just getting what they can for this year's pool before it expires.

 

Also, having Sam back on Effectively Wild has been the best. I love his perspective and his musings on life and what the game means and all that
