This movie kicked some serious ass. It’s just above/tied with Ragnarok for me. Definitely in my top 5 or so

I’m not sure where I’d put captain marvel in my mcu list. Somewhere in the top 7-10 range most likely.

This was great. I’m thinking it’s my favorite MCU origin.

Sorry I didn't get the "Further Reading" comic recommendations we usually do w/ these films posted yet! It's been a rough couple weeks in terms of getting stuff done, etc., lol. But, I'll still get the recs posted, probably tomorrow.

Anyways, my church's youth group, which I help run, saw this yesterday, so I got to see it again. And, while I do continue to have some complaints about the structure, I do also still enjoy it. Maria Rambeau really is the heart of the movie for me, and the way they snuck a critique of American imperialism (via the Skrulls) into what borders as USAF propaganda is dope.

    I do not exist.

I went yesterday with my wife and we both enjoyed it. I had read that it was a standard MCU origin film but it certainly didn't feel that way for me. I pretty much loved every minute of it from the point that she landed on earth (I felt the first bit in space was a bit slow but it was necessary to set the story.)

    Larson & Jackson were great.

I think all of these origin films are probably going to sit in that 10ish area going forward. Until we get something truly new from one of them, I feel like they all kinda get clumped together.

Wait does that mean they’re going to give us that pairing (maybe even hinting at it in Endgame) or is it just something Brie is retweeting because she liked it? Because yeah I’d definitely like to see that pairing. Carol and Valkyrie’s pasts would be really interesting to see them work through together.

    So assuming that this weekend...

I can absolutely see an A Force movie sometime in the future featuring Captain Marvel, Valkyrie, Wasp, Shuri, Scarlet Witch, and others. Hopefully it would also include She-Hulk if they can ever figure out the rights situation regarding the character.

I'm surprised Universal hasn't surrendered the rights after making zero films in 15 years. lol

I don't see them changing Carol to be lesbian or bi in the MCU or else they would have stated it already most likely in press tours. That won't stop people from shipping her with whichever character is single and has any interaction with her. Just like they're doing with her and Thor as well because they shared a scene together for 5 seconds.

Universal's right expired in 2018 I'm pretty sure. Maybe in phase 4 they'll use She-Hulk, especially if Bruce is going to be sidelined.

Brie is just retweeting it bc she likes it and is friends with Tessa. But yeah, I agree, I’d love to see them together ha

    https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/0...res-captain-marvel-will-have-an-achilles-heel

"Well, the point of this movie was to see her exactly as you said, unleashed, unchained," Feige answered. "What happens when she taps into her full potential not being held back? So it was not the time to hold back. It was not the time to emphasize limitations or loss. We’d seen that over the course of the rest of the movie. We wanted to see her cut loose. In future stories, well, none of the Marvel characters are immortal. Even ones that seem immortal, some people might be very hard to kill, but nobody’s unkillable. So if we’re lucky enough to see future adventures with Captain Marvel, of course there will be limitations and there will be Achilles heels and there will be things that we learn and see that it’s not as easy as a slicing through whatever she wants to at any point. But this wasn’t the time to accentuate that."

It's just like Superman. He's always been my least favorite superhero because he has almost every superpower imaginable. He has one obscure weakness and that's it. Instead, his Achilles comes from his inability to save everyone no matter how hard he tries.

It'll be interested to see how the MCU sets up ways to limit Carol's powers to keep her from being too OP.

Supposed concept art of Thanos fighting Captain Marvel is going around twitter. I can send it to anyone who wants to see, but I'm not going to post it in the thread.

She is like Superman... and Superman is my favorite DC character outside maybe Batgirl, so that's a good thing, lol.

Which, the Kelly Sue DeConnick run did a lot of that. Between Jamie McKelvie's primary color costume design & Kelly Sue leaning into Carol as a symbol of hope & inspiration (especially to young Kit), it's definitely there in the character's current DNA. I'm all for doubling down on that, especially if DC refuses to make a real Superman movie.

Much like Superman, Captain Marvel just needs a writer who isn't trash and/or an idiot, someone who understands storytelling and doesn't get caught up in stupid concepts like being "OP."

Haven’t seen Ant-Man and the Wasp yet, but this was unfortunately my least favorite movie in the MCU. I have enjoyed Brie Larson in everything else I’ve seen her in, and went in with no expectations of it good or bad.

    Oh well.
