Right, but the argument Im making is that he'll actually get paid more years in Buffalo...so its not so little. Lets assume the reports are accurate (they almost certainly arent, "guaranteed" money is rarely truly reported correctly)

4yr/29mil/14mil guaranteed...that probably looks like a low 2019 base, an $8-10mil signing bonus, and part of his 2020 guaranteed salary. Meaning he literally cant be cut for savings in Years 1 or 2, and Year 3 (where $4-5mil of the signing bonus would accelerate if cut), his savings from being cut are small. So, 3/21 is functionally guaranteed, short of him getting hurt badly or failing out of the league.

3yr/18mil/12mil means that even if he played every year of the deal, he couldnt reach that Buffalo deal. And chances are the deal looked like a smaller signing bonus (maybe $6mil) along with a low 2019 base and maybe 1/2 his 2020 guaranteed. So, 2/12 becomes certain, but cutting him in 2021 for $5+ mil cap savings becomes very possible for a team that paid Cooper a big money deal and is about to have to do the same for Gallup.

Meaning he didnt leave Dallas for $600k/yr, he left it for probably $9mil more. As much as $17mil more if he plays out the entire deal versus the downside in Dallas.

And none of that accounts for whether the Buffalo deal has offsets (if it doesnt, he guarantees himself more money even if cut in Year 3), how much of the deal is roster bonuses (making him even less likely to be cut in Year 3), etc.

Usually it's bad teams doing it. The Packers have Rodgers and signed actual talent. The Jets, yeah that could all easily blow up. But I'm a fan of Amos and Preston. i think the packers are looking good

Sure, if the entire deal is played through, then yes he'll make more in Buffalo than compared to here. I was comparing just the guaranteed amounts/years because it's very well possible that a 30-year old slot receiver might not play out an entire contract and could be cut or made to take a pay cut sooner than the original contract terms.

Basically, AAV is great for comparing players across teams in terms of being overpaid...its awful for comparing deals from team to team for one player. Leveon Bell got offered $14mil/yr by the Steelers, but in about the weakest way possible. He could sign for that with the Jets but still come out way ahead

Hmmmm. Im torn, its a little higher than what I would have wanted to pay him per year...but I'd also cut Bud Dupree and take his cap savings and give it to Roby any day, and draft Dupree's replacement in the 1st or 2nd.
