Has anyone ever in an interview asked them why they've played so comically fast live?

I think that was just the "punk" thing to do at the time. Bands like Zebrahead have been doing that for decades.

Good guy, but a bad dude

Reading the Nofx book today and fat Mike seems to imply that blink 182 ripped them off as far as fast punk with stage banter but Idk, that's a pretty broad fucking category

I feel like I’ve also heard Mark or Tom say it’s adrenaline/nerves

To be fair it was kind of weird that they did Wishing Well with Skiba, that felt like such a Tom song that I honestly don't even really associate it with Mark and Travis

Yeah even Mark said that song was all Tom

Mark and Travis recorded bass and drums on it.
I don’t see what wrong with a band taking an element from another bands live show and incorporating it and making it their own. I’m sure it helped win over a crowd, considering they could have been playing to a similar audience to start (wasn’t their first big break opening for Pennywise).

It’s worked well for NOFX, and for Blink. It’s a not a stretch. I’m sure NOFX was influenced by another band before them too and ‘ripped off’ elements they liked.
I’m sure a handful of bands could be accused on copying Blink as well.

Also, at this point, they are all Blink 182 songs (even if we feel different about that individually). If Tom wanted to play them, he would have been there to play them still or play them with his oother band. It happens all the time with other bands, covers, and people who work writers. Casual fans who go to a Blink show just want to hear the hit songs. So if that means having Matt sing All The Small Things, then so it goes. Us more invested fans just have to bear it (and appreciate Matt’s willingness to do it and enjoy it for what it is). Also, when they play a more rare Blink song, casual fans who have never heard that song before just kinda have to bare it (although hopefully they love it and want to source it out).

    You can’t please everyone.

I think I remember them saying when Skiba joined he had input on favorite songs of his that they’d incorporate into the setlist. I assume he really liked Wishing Well, since I think Mark’s inclined towards greatest hits and the Enema-TOYPAJ-untitled run when it comes to the setlist.

Alkaline Trio has Matt singing vocals on the album version of Into The Night and Dan does vocals on the acoustic recorded version.

Always thought that is cool. The Republic Of Wolves has done that as well for alt versions of two songs.

Pretty sure Matt said it’s either his favorite song off neighborhoods or it’s his favorite song to play.

Matt said Dysentery Gary and Rock Show were his two favorites to play live.

Blink has played Wishing Well a total of 1 time on their actual tour set list (they played it a bunch for their VIP sound checks). Either way when I think of ‘Tom blink songs’ Wishing Well isn’t on the top of my list.

I think it’s more than ok if blink-182 plays blink-182 songs at blink-182 concerts no matter who wrote or sang the songs originally but that’s just me.

On top of that, Wishing Well fuckings rips and is one of the better post reunion songs.

I remember hearing that they were demoing on those tours.

Imagining what blink's "We Don't Need to Whisper" would've sounded like breaks my heart.

    So much potential.

There are clips of Tom playing “The War” and the band demoing the instrumentals for what would become Up All Night during the Untitled recording sessions. Mark said Tom took a lot of those early demo ideas and turned them into WDNTW.

I agree an album of +44 meets WDNTW with Mark and Tom at their peak would have been super interesting to hear.

I wonder a song with that riff in would have sounded if it was recorded in 2003?

Probably a lot "harder" than it turned out. The intro riff is so heavy but then I always found the rest of Up All Night is so light and lacking aggression as Tom had drifted into his airy AVA direction by then. Back in 03 it would have stayed strong all the way through. Probably similar to Obvious.

Still Love that reunion photo picture so much.

That and the chrome smiley face had me so pumped for their 2009* reunion album.
