ever since I read the track-by-track from Apple Music, the line “I’ve looked within and I’ve read but instead I keep focusing on just how thin I can get” always hits so hard.

That was prob my favourite song of last year. She was amazing on her Pop 2 as well. Really hope she puts out an album soon.

Fair enough. I hadn’t listened to The Japanese House in what seemed like forever, and wasn’t going into this expecting something incredible. Instead I’ve been completely floored and adore the album. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I heard an album I could play through in its entirety without skipping a track.

The production, the layers, the lyrics and the instrumentation are all exquisite in my opinion, and an excellent progression from her first few EPs.

And can I just say what a refreshing thing it is to only release ~two (I don’t count the album version of ‘I saw you in a dream’ seeing as it’s so different) singles before launch? Why do bands stream nigh on the entirety of their bloody albums before release lately?! It sucks so much enjoyment out of it for me.

Lol I’d probably still say Follow My Girl, but the singles did a fantastic job at setting the sonic stage for the album. They’re also some of the best on here too

my friend and I ran this album through an old tape machine and slowed it down 16% and i think you should check it out for a deeper - chiller - more androgynous - and dreamier listening experience

A friend of mine described this as if Aaron Marsh made an album with The 1975.

    I don’t disagree.

I haven’t liked anything I’ve heard by The 1975 but if they sound similar to The Japanese House maybe I’ll have to give them another shot. I adore this record.

I mean, they’re not that alike. The 1975’s EPs prior to their debut were a lot more instrumental and synth-heavy, but I’d argue that comparison has become less relevant with every release, barring Matty’s use of vocal effects.
