never got any better than doing slappies on curbs, but I still cruise around once in a while and keep an eye on the sport.

    I'll change this eventually Prestigious

I just got my first board and started learning in May. Problem is I'm 31 and can't really find enough time to get good.

I skateboarded from the age of about nine till very literally the day I turned eighteen and absolutely lost all interest in it.

My daughter was about to be born and I was still playing music back then, I went from skating all and every day to just stopping.

Bumping this as I'm sure some of you skate. What's your opinion on cruisers ? Do you look down on people riding Penny boards and larger, actual cruisers ?

I'm working in legal in sports companies (started at a federation, moved to a soccer club), so I decided to quit actual skateboarding years ago because I don't want to break something and to be unable to type contracts or to look idiotic in meetings.

I started riding a Penny a couple of years ago and felt like a douchebag riding past actual skaters in the streets. I got two cruisers this year (a 2017 landyachtz dinghy, which feels heavy and too large for cruising but is great to go down small hills, and a 2018 Arbor Pocket Rocket which looks and feels absolutely perfect) and feel like less of a douche, but I wouldn't call what I do skateboarding at all anymore.

Also, does anyone have tips to learn powerslides ? Youtube videos aren't that helpful tbh.

I don’t know any skaters who look down on cruisers or penny’s. It’s just a different thing. I’ve never owned one but I sometimes rid my old roommate’s and it’s super fun. I’ve never powerslid on one though, dunno how different the method is than on a skateboard, I just kinda swing my hips and keep some pressure on my back foot

Skateboarding consumed my life when I was a teenager - but I also quit when I was around 18. Its like the better you get, the bigger you go and with that comes the broken bones and all. Harder to deal with that shit when you get older.

I still cruise on my board around the hood though. skate or die bitches

    what a waste of wood

Skateboarding also consumed my life as a teenager and I just fell off after high school. Have recently been watching a shit ton of videos and familiarizing myself with the best skaters of today. Crazy how much the sport has evolved.

Definitely plan on getting a board when it gets warm again.

I hate that I can spend all summer getting better and better and then winter shows up and slaps the reset button. Went to an indoor park the other day, haven't skated since September, and I was so wobbly and had no confidence.

I try to go to the indoor park every other Monday. Vans just had a House of Vans pop up in Detroit where they set up a park in a closed school’s gym along with setting up a venue and a bunch of workshops (Danny Brown, Joyce Manor, Thundercat, and others performed). The park was crowded but super cool. Christian Hosoi and Gilbert Crockett we’re there.

That does sound rad. I live in the podunks so the closest indoor park is a 50 minute drive. They put a new park in Pittsburgh last year that is a ton of fun to skate. Switch and Signal

I’m lucky to live in the Detroit metro area, it’s is a really great skate city even with the brutal winters. The community is amazing and there are lots of great parks.

Ahh okay. Never been there. I'd love to go to an indoor park sometime soon but I'm definitely worried about having eyes on me

Don’t worry about that, no one actually pays much mind to anyone else as long as everyone’s got decent etiquette. On the miniramp everyone is really supportive no matter what the skill level.

Yep, so long as you're not an asshole hanging out on one of the ledges while people try to skate it, everyone is cool in my experience.

Started skating when I was 10 in 1998. Decided to get back into it 4 years ago and have been having so much fun.

East Coast winter depression is setting in now though. I've actually been able to skate outside almost every weekend this winter but now it's early March and we're getting 5-9 inches this weekend and it's going to be like 7 degrees next week and I'm starting to freak out. Tomorrow will be a week off my board and I'm getting withdrawal.

It really is probably the funnest, most addictive sport. The exhilaration of landing something you've worked on all day or even for weeks is amazing.

I'm hoping to skate tomorrow but my skate crew all have kids or are married now so it's hard to get everyone together

Some of my personal favorites are:

    Jaws

    Kyle Walker

    Tyshawn Jones

    Franky Villani

    Lizzie Armanto

    Clay Kreiner

    Clay Kreiner's "Madness" Part

Some honorable mentions: Gilbert Crockett, Leticia Bufoni, Luan Oliveira, Chima Ferguson, Ben Raybourn, Clint Walker, Curren Caples.

I just found out about Pedro Barros

Volcom Skate on Instagram: “@pedrobarrossk8 unleashed in the streets! @blackmediaskate ! @gardengroovefilmes”

    and Aurelien Girard

Independent Trucks on Instagram: “F&UK Yeah @aureliengiraud on winning the Independent Trucks Best Trick @spottampa today! #RideTheBest #TampaPro2019 @erickoston…”

Then of course there are my all time favorites, like Brian Anderson, Chris Haslam, Chris Cole, Tony Hawk, Chris Joslin, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, Daewon Song, Torrey Pudwill, Rodney Mullen, Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, Theotis Beasley, Tom Penny, Ishod Wair, Ray Barbee, a lot of obvious names but all super good.

Nyjah Houston is also good but he's a dick.
