I agree, I think it's a terrible comparison. It's much closer to what BMTH did with their latest album, but honestly, maybe a little less successful, even if lyrically superior.

Also I've Learned to Love Myself deserves to be opening a better album than this, and a heavy part at the end would have really knocked it out of the park.

Verses are awesome and Anberliny but the rest is very bad and Imagine Dragonsy, imo

Who You Are Not is easily my least favorite.

That Priest and Used Cars bridge is so cool, I think that could have translated better on the album. Would be cool to hear a whole album like that, but I totally fuck with the way TBB sounds as is

I'll give it another listen but I was massively disappointed by it.

Goddamnit, this sounds so good. Why the hell did the band go with the original production? I don't get what these guys are thinking. A whole record with this overall better production would have made TBB easily top Fake History for me.

After reading the negativity in this thread, I dove in for my first listen of this album and was pleasantly surprised. This is really solid. It's not incredible or anything but I do think it's a good addition to their discography.

I feel this has TFOT "Manipulator" potential where it ends up being their best album despite sounding different than the previous work.

    I SAID POTENTIAL

Fake and TBB are wonderful as is.

I don't think so - Regardless of the difference in sound, the songwriting is a significant step down here from previous albums. Jason sounds better than ever on a lot of songs but the music behind him doesn't hold its weight, and the structure of the songs are way more predictable than the rest of their discography.

I've said it before, these songs have potential to be good but they fall so flat in a lot of areas, mostly the choruses. I don't dislike this because it's a change in sound, because it's "different", as they've hinted at this sort of sound on TBB and even Fake History to an extent, and it's kind of a logical progression for them. I dislike this because the songs suck for the most part. The drumming is boring, the guitarwork is boring and even cheesy at points, and the bass feels non-existent in the mix.

I feel like the best way to describe how I feel about this album given time is "I'm not angry, I'm disappointed."

Didn't their guitarist leave before this album? Does that contribute to the music being less than great or does Jason write it all?

Anthony, the drummer, left in 2012 after recording The Blackest Beautiful. Jean, the guitarist, left in 2014 or 2015. Jean did a lot of the writing from what I heard.

It's really the songwriting. Honestly, a soft letlive. album gets my hype potentially, but they sorta blew it. The lyrics and choruses are often really weak, which is detrimental to an album of this variety. It sounds totally uncommitted and unadventurous. Also the song Elephant feels absolutely pointless in the context of the album, anyone else agree?
