Deja is such a timeless album for me. I knew what "Deja Entendu" was before I really even got into Brand New. It really opened my music taste and changed the way I write.

Yea.. I'm going to love sealed to me on this record. I really love this song.. I get that the lyrics are a little quirky but I still think they are well written

IAAN is my favorite of the newest 3 songs by far *shrug*. Love the little call/response of the chorus, love the lyrics in the verses/bridge, and love the somewhat catchy tune of the song. It sounds like a straightforward alt-rock song with strong pop punk influences, and I think the band would do a great album of that. And considering their penchant for going in an almost totally new direction with each album, it would make sense that the next one gets away from the the experimental and screams sound of Daisy.

There was a lot of talk about IAAN being an upbeat and happier Brand New song, but I definitely don't subscribe to that. The lyricism is pretty dark, an apology. Feels a little reminiscent, musically, to The Format. Similarity being that it sounds upbeat and happy, but lyrics are melancholy and self deprecating.

I would love a happy Brand New album. I'm happier now, with a wife and kids, than I was as an angsty teenager screaming along to Deja and TDAG. Daisy arrived a month or so after I turned 20 and a few months before I began dating my now wife.

I've listened to Sealed To Me maybe four times. I know it's something I'm gonna love and I don't want to overplay if it's on the record. It's tough sometimes.

Also, besides Ballgame and Bad Books stuff I've never really cared enough for a Kevin Devine song to really delve too deep into his stuff, but that 11-17 song is damn good. Just listened to it for the first time earlier.

I think this is why I like IAAN, at first listen, it sounds super upbeat, and is their poppiest song since Deja, or at least Archers. but then those lyrics hit you, and I just love that dichotomy of the "happy" sounding music with the darker lyrics.

Listen to Matter Of Time. Its a live in studio album from a little while back, and it is phenomenal. Especially the performance of Brother's Blood.

Okay, so I listened to TDAG for the first time in awhile earlier today on my drive to SC, and I've been a little too critical of it. I take back calling songs filler (awhile back), I think all the songs are good. I think a better way to describe my feelings is I think like half the songs are perfect, and the other half are just good songs. When an album is full of songs I'd call 10/10, but also has a few I'd consider like 7/10's, the 7's seem worse by contrast. And that's not to say I think albums have to be straight 10's, I've worked on music both my own and producing for others so I know when writing and recording some songs just stick out as better than others. Definitely doesn't mean I don't enjoy everything else.

So, basically, it's a great album. I don't connect with Brand New enough to consider it a favorite of all time, but I can see why so many people do. (I still think Daisy is better though ;-p, and it's the only album I really connect to in their discography)

If everyone is looking for happy pop-rock style songs with really dark lyrics. You guys should check out a fairly unheard of band that my wife and I loved back before they broke up. Their name is Josephine Collective. The only full length album they ever had, We Are the Air was only released digitally though.

I'd recommend their song "Living" as one to try out if anyone is interested.

Just gave TDAGARIM a listen for the first time since it came out and man, "Welcome to Bangkok" is an incredible piece of music.

Is this album their most beloved, then Daisy, per the consensus?

That's a long time to go without listening to this album.

Please be kind. Like actually kind though.

Jesus Christ, how did you go so long without listening to it? I'm pretty sure the general consensus is TDAG>Deja>Daisy>Weapon, although my personal one has Daisy at my number two spot.

Aside from a few songs, I never got into Brand New for some reason. But, I'm trying to change that.
