Got Super Mario 3D Worlds for WiiU in the mail yesterday and started playing with the wife. Really really awesome! Love the mix of Super Mario 64 and original Super Mario Bros

The more I play of the Division, the more I love it. Such a great game, really surprised by how much fun it is solo.

Day on the Tentacle this week. WOOT!

  7. Have any of you ever read Kill Screen? It's a site whose reviews are more dedicated to deconstructing a game's themes / cultural message than about its gameplay, which results in some interesting articles.

We like to stay away from the word “gameplay.” Kill Screen’s primary concern is the interaction between games and culture, and so that’s what our reviews hold a game to task for: how it reflects and responds to the world around it. Good art does that; bad art does that; games do that. Describing “gameplay” doesn’t often add to that conversation, and anyway, watching a video of it online will do more than our words ever could, if that’s what you’re looking for. All of which is not to say that we don’t discuss the game’s various systems or mechanics, but that merely describing them isn’t our aim, and also that, as a word, “gameplay” is vague and over-applied.

Sometimes, of course, a game is just a game—something straightforward, unpretentious and well designed—and in those cases we’ll still probably not talk about gameplay, per se. We’re much more interested in the sublime, abstract aspects of play—what the net impression of that game is on the player. (For a more academic read on the subject, it doesn’t get much better than this essay, by Robin Hunicke, Marc LeBlanc, and Robert Zubek.)

Anyway, I mention this because I just read their review of The Division, and it's a pretty interesting take on the game's message.

Considering a gaming laptop now. I dropped the one I have a long time ago a ruined the 500gb hard drive, which was replaced by a family friend. Only problem was he "didn't think about the capacity" so I was downgraded to one with 50gb on it. I have to delete stuff and run disc clean-up at least once a week. It's out of RAM too.

I'm thinking I might as well buy a gaming laptop. That'll cover my gaming and regular computer needs. Gonna' wait a while and see how I feel about spending that much money on one. This one seems good. THAT PRICE THOUGH.

  9. That's pretty cheap for a gaming laptop imo, high-end gaming laptops go for ~$2k. Here's another cheaper option: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015XBKY6U/?tag=absolutepunk-20

Persona 4: Golden is easily one of the best games I have ever played. It should definitely hold you over for awhile!

I'd love to get a high-end one but that's way too expensive haha. Is Acer a better brand than Asus? That Acer is more expensive but the Asus has a HDD and SSD.

Hmmm, check the locations that you can fast travel to. Is Tartarus Station a place you can go to? That's the location for the Nee Revolution DLC. That showed up on my list and I hand to bought that DLC before.

Oh you can't tell without playing? I haven't played yet and was thinking it was only the main game that was GWG and then you said it was GOTY edition

I've been so spoiled by the headphone jack on the dualshock 4. I barely play anything on my PS3 anymore because of the lack of one.

Yeah I don't think it shows the DLC. I think it's just there. My friend said the same thing he said the description doesn't show DLC but the game had the locations in there. Strange.

Went on GOG to double check the Day of the Tentacle Remastered release date, and saw a countdown clock saying it would be available in 40 minutes! Came back 40 minutes later, no download link. Refreshed anxiously for half an hour, nothing. That was 50 minutes ago and I gotta figure it'll actually be released at midnight.

But why the lying countdown clock, GOG? Why you gotta do me like that?

So, Firewatch was a great experience. I know there is a lot of talk about the ending of the game being disappointing but I thought it was fitting giving the themes explored throughout the game.

Absolutely stellar VA work from Rich Sommer as Henry and Cissy Jones as Delilah, may be some of the best VA work in videogames period, though it probably had to be given how crucial the relationship between the two is for the narrative to work.

I still think about this game almost daily and how it's stuck with me. I don't necessarily have a desire to play it again at the moment but man everything about it was just great. Originally I wasn't too thrilled about the ending and was kinda disappointed that the inevitable didn't end up happening and I still feel that way now but i'm not upset about that as I felt i was originally. Agreed about the voiceover work, absolutely amazing, same goes for the moody music. If you haven't yet, listen to the soundtrack if that's your thing, really really great.
