No one can give me grief for not liking the new 1975 or foxing albums anymore, because I know for a fact the bands don't like them either so I'm still their number 1 fan. Also I am constantly disappointed in them but still number 1 fan.

Suffice it to say, a band with a lot of clout and acclaim such as Thrice might have more pull in dealings with their label than other bands

When a record executive is presented with a record, the first thing they do is listen for the single(s). This is common knowledge as well as common sense. Unless you're footing the bill to some degree, you have no say in how your corporate overlord spends their money to market their artist.
