I’m going to be completely honest. The only Friday the 13th I’ve seen is the first one. I truly have no clue why, I just have never watched any of the others. And I really like it, so it’s not that I have anything against the series or something. Don’thurtmeplease.

 

Watched a random movie tonight. Pyewacket. Shit was pretty good! Gave me the heebs a few times.

I really liked Pyewacket when I saw t in like April, and I just remembered it like a month ago and had an incredibly fond feeling where I was just like, “Damn, that’s like one of my favourite horror movies of the last few years.” I can’t back that up, but I know I’m gonna have to watch it again

 

jason goes to hell was GOOFY af but yeah rewatching jason x was a blast. i love all the little nods to the first two alien movies

 

no worries I'm in the same boat. I enjoyed the first one but for whatever reason haven't had the drive to continue with the others. I definitely plan to as I feel simply as a fan of the genre I need to have seen the staples haha.

 

i was so excited for the whole VR part (i hadnt seen the movie in quite some time) but my god is it hilarious. like, in the best way. theres something about it being silent while he bashes them together and into the tree that makes it v funny to me.

The Jason X love has to be at least partially nostalgic, because I just finished my series runthrough and for a movie about an undead killer in space, it was nowhere near as fun as it should have been imo. Some goofy fun stuff for sure, but also a bit of a slog at times.

I think I'm starting my Child's Play runthrough tonight. I've only ever seen the first film.

 

They bring up some interesting points, but the fact that this has been going on since basically the dawn of the genre seems like a glaring omission. Critically acclaimed horror films being dubbed “thrillers” or “suspense” to seem more legitimate because the genre isn’t given any credit has nothing to do with the current political climate.

 

yeah I personally didn't read it that way, i thought they were just discussing that here we are through 2018 and still "horror" is a dirty word. but then again i think any kind of genre fare tends to get that "it was good for a (type of film)" outlook

 

I took it that way because of the framing as a “rising trend” starting in 2017 and the fact that their reasoning why is because of what is going on. If the article was just about why people are flocking to horror while things are terrible in the world I would have liked it a lot more.

I love CP2. They started to "Freddy" him and give him jokes and quips but I also think that movie, and 3, are actually sorta mean. I appreciate that about them.

How did this get made, it’s so weird?? And way too well-written. Elijah Wood is killing me. Can’t wait to read that writeup posted a while ago.

 

Bird Box was ok? Good cast and an intriguing start, but there were no real surprises and not much of a payoff imo. The movie was too vague for me to draw out any deeper meaning. I've seen a couple articles talking about the possible themes/metaphors, but there just didn't seem like there was enough subtext or resolution to get those messages across.
