I finally got Hereditary from Redbox and watched it. I knew nothing about it except for all the praise it got. I thought it was good and was super confused at the end. I got the whole thing about Paimon and the cult though. I googled and read articles and I definitely need to rewatch to connect the dots myself.

Christmas Presence on Shudder is a "get high and watch it with other people" type of movie

Watched Black Christmas and Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale this weekend. both great. the one thing that makes me laugh with Black Christmas and I know it's suspension of disbelief, but man, he's like screaming into that phone haha and no one hears it.

Rare Exports was so good. definitely a new staple for me every year. the way it's shot feels like an Amblin movie so that makes me love it even more

I came in here to talk about it and ask if anyone else knew wtf it meant. The end definitely lost me. The whole thing was a little side-eye from me tbh haha

I mean...that reaffirms everything I thought but doesn’t explain anything new :anguish:

And like I have the lowest bar for movies but this one is a no from me. I like the idea of the story they were going for (or at least the one in that article) but there were too many things that didn’t get explained/didn’t add up so ultimately I feel that they just missed the mark.

You should watch it so you can tell me about it. We have similar tastes and I’ve been meaning to watch it for years but it keeps slipping my mind

  18. Loved the trailer, so I think I'm going to give it a go! Reviews seemed mixed but it's right up my alley. Not looking for much here besides a fun premise and creature design.

  19. Okay, so checking back in. This was...fun, but not very good lol. I'd probably still recommend it if you have a soft spot for found footage/mockumentaries and creature design. I got what I wanted out of it, but the pacing is a little uneven and the story doesnt quite add up. If that doesn't bother you,I'd say it's worth the watch.

My biggest pet peeve was that large chunks of the film felt like a commercial for the rest of Adam Green's filmography. I can't imagine enjoying those moments unless you're a huge fan of his work, and I've never seen another film of his.

they are a lot of fun and i do love his dedication to practical effects..it really makes every single kill fucking awesome but goodness, some other aspects of those movies really were very bad. but honestly i guess i’m also describing a lot of movies from the 80s that i sincerely adore

yeah, I guess I always thought that was the point (leaning into the so bad it's good aspects) but it's admittedly been a while since I've seen them
