It’s so dumb that the Bengals say “Who Dey” because it’s a direct cop of the Saints “Who Dat” and that’s definitely more New Orleans dialect than Cincy

 

I swear, you can’t fucking please some of these Niners fans. The same fans that say “why are we winning meaningless games” complained two weeks ago when the team gave a shitty effort against this same Hawks team and played a classic tank game.

 

Also I just wanna say (every week) that I’m jealous of Mahomes / Mayfield / Watson / Wentz / Goff. Hell, even you Trubisky.

 

This I hate the tanking mindset

Team morale is also a very important thing to consider so you don’t become the 2002-2018 Browns

It’s actually NOT a good plan to blow up the team repeatedly, and that’s what you will have to do if morale gets so low that no one wants to re-sign, or play with effort, or practice hard, or study tape.

The only good example of tanking I’ve ever seen, “suck for Luck” after Manning got hurt, still wasn’t even intentional, the Colts roster and Curtis Painter were both that bad lol. Everybody’s playing for their jobs and that makes tanking just a “theory”, not something that actually happens in a locker room full of egos.

I want my coaches to lose their jobs, sure, so there’s nuance to this. But I also want the defense to get their swagger back. I would HATE to lose Ramsey / Campbell / Ngakoue / whoever else I love on my team because we lost harder than we should have to go draft somebody.

 

if you are eliminated from the playoffs, there is no upside to winning games. The rosters are so different from year to year that the "momentum" thing or whatever is meaningless.

Getting a higher draft pick is supposed to be consolation for having a really bad team lol. I think it’s a cheap line of logic to be like “oh well the team should just try to do worse!!” Nah, playing as well as you can despite all kinds of adversity during the season is the main point of this sport. Drafting well to fix the on field results is part of it, but it’s stupid to make that the focal point during the season when games are happening. If the team is capable of winning more games it’s stupid to want your team to lose on purpose just to disrupt the parity of the league

 

Like am I mad we lost today and got a better draft pick? No, I’m much less mad than I was a few weeks ago when I thought we could still turn it around. But I still watched the whole game and wanted to win cause that’s the POINT haha

I totally disagree because that “momentum” and team chemistry is the difference between your studs staying to try to fix the team, and just moving on.

It doesn’t matter if smaller role players have a lot of turnover - but potentially losing your BIG pieces is the real reason you want to give them some pride and faith in the team & finish strong.

 

If that’s how it is then that’s how it is. Then we tried to win and still went 4-12. At least then it feels like we didn’t just throw away games, and send a message to our few good players we don’t care / don’t believe in them just for the draft... we actually earned those picks by actually being that bad lol

Like if we’re in a Madden league fuck you if you intentionally throw picks and use all backups for 6 games after you’re eliminated just to get a higher pick. When you guys did the Madden league didn’t you have a rule against that? Because it’s fucking bullshit right? Lol so why would it be a fair mindset in real life

 

Tanking is insulting to everyone. Coaches, players, owners, and fans.

If my team was 4-8 and eliminated, and I tore my ACL in week 4, I'd be PISSED if my teammates and coaches jerked off the rest of the season for the sake of a better draft pick after I made that sacrifice, and would probably leave in free agency as a result.

People take huge risks for football and they don't want to take those risks just to lose.

Thing is I didn’t say momentum, he did. I said morale. Which literally translates to, how good each player feels about being on that team in general. That’s very different and definitely exists. Low morale means you will lose a lot more games and players don’t want to be there when their contract is up.

 

I don’t think the whole culture thing matters much because the coaches are gonna be the scapegoats and fired regardless, there will be a new culture installed, etc etc

I also think it’s rare that picking 5th or 6th is significantly worse than picking like 2nd or 3rd unless you’re trading the pick or going after a transcendent QB prospect

I do think morale is important, but its vastly overrated. These guys still try to play their best, whether they think they are in a good position or not. They are not guaranteed money like other sports, so there is still so much incentive to do well.

 

This is why its stupid IMO to say the Browns were dumb for trading Josh Gordon. He was setting a shit example for the team and they had to instill a winning culture. He fits in on the Pats thanks to him not being an older player and an example setter on the team, but he held Cleveland back. They made the right move going forward without him.

and you're more likely to win more going forward the higher you draft when you're in a bad season.
