This is about you. Don't try and pass this off on Phoebe Bridgers. She's wonderful and does not deserve your blame.

holy shit this EP killed me last night. I've listened to it like 20 times since it's been out so it was by no means a first listen. but for some reason it destroyed me last night while driving around listening to it. I started weeping by the end of "Bite the Hand" and didn't stop until the 4th or 5th song. I don't even know why it happened.

I'm going to be utterly evaporated into a mist of tears next week during the show, I can already tell

This was a pretty solid albeit super emotionally taxing show, mostly confirming things I already knew: Dacus is most interesting to me by a country mile in terms of songwriting, and the other two aren’t artists I really want to listen to while nestled tightly within a group of 1.5k people. The collab set at the end was particularly inspired though, a very earned and successful release after hours of tension.

    Meet me in Montauk

I respect your opinion and your candidness. Curious as to what doesn’t draw you to Julien/Phoebe. I do think that Lucy is more experimental and brazen in her musicality than the other two. However, I don’t think a country mile is fair. Just wondering what you draws you to your conclusion.

Edit: re-read your comment, may have misinterpreted your statement. Was it the venue? preference? not the right environment to listen to Julien/Phoebe, especially with 1500 other people?

The venue played a huge part for sure. Idk, I had a good time, just honestly was pretty let down by Phoebe’s set, (not super together; they seemed almost...bored? playing SITA songs tbph, didn’t help that things were mixed weird) and I just have never connected with Julien’s music besides a couple songs and while this show was my favorite interaction with her tunes, I still just don’t get what most people seem to get from her. I think I’m just pretty through and through not a “one person and a looper” enthusiast no matter who it is.

That being said Boygenius was fucking stellar and the more I listen to the ep the more I think they’ll soon rule the world if they want.

I've been super busy with work and school, so haven't have a chance to post about the Toronto show, but holy shit the Toronto show! I traveled over from Syracuse and got a friend in Toronto to go with me. I saw Julien when she came to Ithaca, but hadn't seen Phoebe or Lucy yet, which needed to change. I was floored by the entire show. I was wrecked by Julien playing Hurt Less and Go Home in succession. First time I've actually welled up during a show. Others must have felt similarly, because I heard plenty of crying and saw tears streaming down people's faces. I'm still thinking about the show a week later. All three killed it. The boygenius set was unreal, especially when they tried out playing Ketchum, ID off-mic for the first time. It was something else. The pure bliss in their faces as more and more people started singing along each time they sang the chorus was so nice to see. They lost it once the song ended. I hope anyone who gets the chance goes to one of these shows; it was really something special.

Definitely couldn’t hear the verses of Ketchum due to the noise of the louder show in the smaller room of the venue, but everyone singing the hook in unison was a really awesome thing to be a part of.

Given the response they’ve gotten from critics and fans, I would be shocked if this is the last music/tour we get from them.

saw them last night. all 3 individual sets were great but holy shit, when boygenius came on. it's hard to think of a more powerful set i've seen recently.

they are probably doing it at their other shows, but them closing with ketchum and not singing into the mics and having the crowd sing along was electric.

also, phoebe played a new song which was probably one of my favorites of her set. can't wait to hear more from these ladies.

Just want to get in on the Lucy Dacus love throughout this thread. Wouldn't have found her without Boygenius and now Historian is probably going to be my AOTY.

Also that Kendall Jenner thing is cool, really unexpected too
