Oh God just wait til they hear Sober and blink will sound like ska, Goldfinger, Alkaline Trio, Heavens, theHell, The Sekrets, +44, Soul Punk, Fall Out Boy, and that one song Mark sang on from The Passion of the Christ soundtrack.

Does anyone have AP's Neighborhoods' review? I'm curious to look at it in hindsight.

The site liked it at the time, right? All I can find is:

"Whether it was "the right way" or not, all of the days that we have waited for Neighborhoods have been well worth it." - Staff Review 9/21/11

  6. Haha, no one's mentioned Goldfinger in 10 years. They've been named dropped more times in the past 24 hours than anyone ever actually listened to them when they were releasing good music. But you're completely right. My favorite part is that everyone was first worried it would sound like All Time Low[1] because they worked with Feldy, and if you had told any Blink fan in the middle of the 2000s that one day someone would use "Goldfinger" as basically the stand in for that era of pop-punk and be like "so, you know this sound that basically everyone has, right?, well in 20 years Blink's gonna write a song like that and people aren't gonna say it sounds like Blink, but instead ... Goldfinger." They'd be like "oh shit, that's awesome, I can't believe Goldfinger blew up and is remembered that way and Blink is still making pop-punk, that's so great."

[1]: Sidebar: If you sound like a copy of a copy of you, do you still sound like you?

What a weird thing to quote me with, creeping me out, knock it off.

still ... so ... many ... jokes ... how badly I wanna make the easy ones ... must ... not ...

Yeah, I thought he was joking but it was oddly specific so I googled it and heard the song. Whyyyy.

Now I'm listening to MxPx for the first time since like 10th grade (Renaissance EP). Fuck my life.

I thought it was gonna be funny, but reading through those reddit posts/comments really pissed me off. I really hope the band doesn't fucking see that shit... good lord.

the nostalgia economy has got to be at an all time high

  13. It'd be very interesting to see Goldfinger's play counts from the last 24 hours, haha. I'm still very curious how people actually think it sounds like Goldfinger. And even if it did, how would that be a negative thing? Goldfinger is great, haha. If Blink-182 sounded like Blink-182, Goldfinger, and Alkaline Trio, it would be an amazing band.

  14. Put on some Slowly Going.. and bask in it.

haha! We already know what happens when blink is under-produced (Neighborhoods.) I'll take overproduced any day of the week before we go back to Neighborhoods production.

I was never actually that into MxPx. I bought the Renaissance EP on a whim once when my parents stopped at a Borders on our way to the beach, and I'm sure I listened to some of their other stuff but I don't think they ever really *clicked* for me. I'm listening to these songs right now just staring numbly at my screen.

Yeah. So fucking dumb. Enema and TOYPAJ both sounded huge and compressed and everyone loved those. Untitled was right in a sweet spot of compressed and dynamic, IMO.

If you're going to try these sort of throwback style albums, I think you need big production.

    I love MxPx.

  21. If Scott Russo produced it it would sound like Unwritten Law. If Tim Pagnotta produced it it would sound like Sugarcult. That chorus melody and vocal pattern is quintessential 90's era pop-punk, does it and that guitar/drum combo show up in basically every pop-punk album from that era? Yepppppp. Haha, and also, no shit. Like listen to Stomping Ground and Enema and it's like ... oh ... yeah ... these are from the same cloth, this is awesome. More bands should sound like Goldfinger (before they released the screamo stuff after John worked with The Used and SOTY too many times)! Better than sounding like a strangled cat covering U2.

so jason, when can you share some of your thoughts on what you've heard? (assuming you've heard more than BTD and rabbit hole)

  24. cricketandclover

    Things have changed.

It's really quite amazing how huge and sleek Enema sounds for being done on tape. Finn killed it on that record so much.
