    To clarify my mewithoutYou comment.

It's definitely not a comparison, but more where I spend my limited time with music. When I have an hour to throw something on and enjoy, it has been Nearer My God or [Untitled].

Lol. Original drummer came back 4 albums ago and the 2nd bassist has been with them that long as well.

I understood your Mike J reference.

I've never tried the blocking feature, and I'm actually pretty curious as to what it actually looks like.

Hmm, I didn't know that Taylor tracked for Coheed in 2007.

What’s your favorite song on Palms?

Also, why do you think @Kevin360 isn’t enjoying the album as much anymore? My personal theory is that the vinyl debacle ruined it for him.

Nah. I moved past the vinyl debacle weeks ago.

I’m sure I’ll return to it. I love Thrice, and I loved this album. Just need some time away.

    We’re just on a break. I swear.

Asking a new poster why a long-time poster isn’t enjoying a new Thrice album and speculating with said new poster about the reason behind it is why I love this site.

The more I listen to this, the more this becomes bottom-tier Thrice for me. I hate typing that, but it’s that rare album where it is doing the opposite of growing on me. It’s solid because it’s Thrice, but it feels almost inconsequential in light of so much of their discography. Assuming the next album is excellent, I can see myself forgetting this exists. Am I horrible?

  15. I personally wouldn’t say bottom-tier. I would probably go middle if the pack right above TAITA and Major/Minor.

I gave it a spin yesterday after all this talk and I still like it a good amount. I may have also let my expectations run wild going into this one.

I think my thing is, it sounds fine. But at this stage in a band's career, especially one as great as Thrice, "fine" just seems so anticlimactic. Then I go listen to an album like [Untitled] which completely redefines mewithoutYou's sound and career and excites me to no end and this album sounds even flatter. It just doesn't do a whole lot of new, exciting things for Thrice save for a couple key moments (like the end of "Just Breathe"). And yes, I know not every new album is going to be the band's new magnum opus like I'd argue [Untitled] is for mwY. That's a rare achievement. But if nothing else, I would expect the new material to breathe new life into the band's sound. I thought TBEITBN did this super well. It wasn't mind-blowingly innovative, but it was super solid and capitalized on all the band's greatest strengths within the rock genre. It was also cohesive. This one is more dynamic, which I'd usually be all over, but even the different experimentation feels mild and it lacks cohesion as an album. I'm absolutely going to enjoy listening to this when I revisit the band's discography come album #11. Maybe I'll have a different opinion by then. But for now, I'm just kind of shocked by how much it's not clicking with me.

That's one of the longer criticism comments I've written. Not trying to bring the thread down and this is all personal opinion. Just curious if anyone feels this way. I love that people love it, there's just something really missing for me.

It’s also only been out for a month. I was lukewarm on Beggars after the initial cycle, and it showed it’s staying power over time.

I’m still hopeful Palms will have a second wind at some point later on.

I basically feel about the new mewitoutYou album how you feel about Palms, listened to it a good amount to start, but I have no desire to return to it. I honestly think my album of the year is coming down to Palms and Shrine. I still pop in Shrine all the damn time.

Do we find ourselves being tougher critics as we get older? Would we find flaws in albums we loved during our youths if we had the palates we have as adults? I'm trying to figure out why I haven't been blown away by an album in a really long time.

I'm blown away by a new album on almost a monthly basis. So much good music out there.

Maybe so, but I'm talking the last 10 years. And I've tried all the records that I hear people raving about on here.
