Not sure if he's been mentioned yet, but Ro James just put out his debut album on Friday.

 

Damn you were right... this is an incredible record. Such a huge evolution from her first two, which were still great. Also, her soundtrack songs are fire. This song has been stuck in my head for hours since I heard it, no wonder it hit #1:

Timbaland is/was a genius.

 

Oh man, had you never heard "Try Again"? I legit envy you getting to hear that for a first time.

 

Yeah I hadn't heard much of her stuff honestly haha

 

To me Try Again is the quintessential radio RnB hit of the early 2000s. Everything about that song reminds me of that time in my life.

 

Well it managed to steal "Been a long time; shouldn't have left you" from Rakim in my mind, so that's pretty high praise

 

It really is a great song. Can't believe I hadn't heard it before.

 

The label that owns Aaliyah's post-debut work REALLY needs to get on making her music widely available on digital services tbh. It would make it much more accessible for a new generation of fans to discover.

 

Speaking of older artists we're just now getting into... I never got around to listening to Ginuwine outside of a few singles. Been listening to "The Life," and it's really good front to back.

I know it's more "ratchet&b" but i've been digging into Ty Dolla $ign's mixtapes and they're really fun. Some great stuff on there.

 

The production makes this good. Not to diss his vocal abilities, but I'm much more interested in the music.

I'm currently listening to 7/27 by Fifth Harmony and I'm pleasantly surprised. The lyrics aren't exactly amazing but it's a pretty fun album regardless, especially for the summer.

By the way, in case some of you don't know: Tweet released an album this year and it's awesome.

 

That would be Blackground (if they still exist, their last release was in 09), which is a horrible mess (listen to the JoJo interview on the A Waste Of Time Podcast by ItsTheReal to hear just how big of a mess it is).

 

I would imagine it would have to be a mess if they can't even get their shit together enough to put classic albums that would rake in regular sales onto digital platforms.
