We reach for the longest shadow

Speaking of screams... are we assuming these are all Claudio?

On this album? yeah, Travis has a very distinctive squawk

how do you hear this album and start suggesting producers they should work with? Based on this they should never waste their time with a producer again

Man, y’all are really upset about me wondering what a Coheed record with Yip would sound like, huh

I can think it’s a redonkulous idea without being categorized as “upset”

They definitely don't need anyone messing with the songwriting process, just a guy in the room to say "hey turn Travis up" during mixing

Havrnt studied this in depth enough to complain about production but it sounds great to me, though more Travis would be sick

a good mix engineer doesn’t need a producer for that. they should have me mix for em

I can think this record is awesome and sounds close to perfect and still wonder what a Yip Coheed record would sound like.

yip records dont have enough depth or size to them. they dont feel as epic or larger than life as coheed records should. it totally works for raw post hardcore bands but an oversized prog rock band would sound awful with his sound.

This is the problem I have with his Circa Survive records. I love all of them for the most part but they’re missing something that the first three had. Not really sure how to articulate it but yeah. I think a Yip produced Coheed record would be missing that something too.

Edit: The Amulet and Descensus sound great but they don’t sound quite as otherworldly as their earlier albums.

Fully agree with the Circa+Yip stuff not sounding as "big" and the idea that it would hurt Coheed even more.

Plus I imagine almost any outside producer would just push for songs to be even more concise and poppy, which their recent records already go too much in that direction for me.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I was gonna say, the production is fine but this needs a much beefier mix

    yeah good okay Prestigious

I'm going through SSTB again right now and damn, what an amazing debut. The bass on this album is otherworldly. Perfect mix of emo and prog. There's not a single bad song on here.

the Junesong/Neverender/God Send trio at the end of this record is straight God Tier. I love it so so much.

I love how in Delirium Trigger there are some lines where Claudio's voice cracks tremendously, gives it such a raw feeling.

Almost done with my full discography listen (Just have CBTS left). I forgot how much I loved Ascension. I think that might be my 3rd favorite C&C album.

Hollywood is definitely this band's worst song, what an abomination. But other than that, Ascension is pretty solid, though Descension is where the REAL stuff goes down

Holly Wood has cool parts, and it's short enough to be rather inoffensive. It's fine. Iron Fist is probably my least favorite Coheed song.

Someone on reddit took pictures of the deluxe book. Reading through it now... it's a lot.

i'm revisiting the color before the sun bc i earnestly think it's their worst album but i always want to challenge that opinion. anyway "island" is awesome, we all know that, but the chorus of "eraser" bores me so much

I think Eraser is definitely the most boring song on there.

"colors" is also just... idk, there's not a lot going on here. i don't really think there are bad coheed songs, just poorly or lazily executed ones, and this album has the most of both for me

That's funny because I think Descension is pretty forgettable (I do love 2's My Favorite 1, though).

Hollywood is probably my least favorite on Ascension, but I don't think it's THAT terrible.
