Cold is a good way to describe it, I think it fits where the band was at the time too. I remember Claudio saying he had bad writer’s block for a lot of that album. The songs are there for the most part, the production just makes everything feel a bit detached. Far is probably the most underrated song in their catalogue.

 

There's a huge mood shift within the band from NWFT to YOTBR. There was a behind the scenes dvd for both and the NWFT is pretty happy go lucky and the YOTBR one is grim throughout.

Speaking of, this is the first time in a while there isn't any official behind the scenes dvd released with their album. Pretty bummed.

I don’t know how it took me until now to realize it was a call back to The Ring in Return. I like that song even more now.

 

Yoooo this is gonna be awesome.

 

I love how much of a window they give fans into their creative process and what goes into each album

 

I've never seen any of these docs. I need to watch some.

i also really love the title track of year of the black rainbow. it's still not one of my favorite coheed albums, i get really tired by the time "pearl of stars" hits. for one of their shortest albums it sure feels longer than either of the good apollos. but i also sorta like that the album is just a huge bummer

 

like, "finally, we recorded the first chapter of the amory wars, and guess what, it's the most depressing one"

 

The weather was miserable, cold and rainy, the week Black Rainbow was released so I always associate it with dreary weather. It fits the tone of the album nicely.

Claudio mentioned the Vaxis story was five parts when they first announced UC. I'm curious how much of it he has mapped out.

After more listens, I'm now back on the "I wish I'd ordered the deluxe edition" wagon.

 

The Afterman one is more a tour documentary about the tour they did the summer before Afterman was released, it’s still really fun though.

 

I've always bought deluxe editions but I didn't get this one. No behind the scenes DVD or vinyl deluxe sealed it for me. The story is cool, but once I read it once I never did again in most cases.

 

This is the first one I haven't bought, too. I kept holding out hope there would be a version released with the vinyl later on, like with the Afterman.

 

the Afterman tour doc is great, easily my favorite doc of theirs. Dave Gibney is hilarious
