Oh I hate the title track, haha. Probably my least favorite Coheed track. I really don’t like Made Out of Nothing either, but other than that YOTBR ranges from great to fine. I love The Broken, Here We Are Juggernaut, World of Lines, and In the Flame of Error.

Do they play much of YOTBR live? How well does Josh handle Chris Pennie’s parts?

    No Fun. Not Ever.

Made Out of Nothing and The Broken are the only things I ever revisit off of that.

They play Juggernaut pretty often... that's about it. Pretty well. He talks in their documentary that came with the afterman about how hard Chris' parts were and how much he respects him and tries to do his parts justice.

I hated it too for ages! thought it was just weirdly anticlimactic and had no big hook like I expect from Coheed closers. honestly on revisiting I think it's bold as hell and the big "while you were sleeping, we were stealing your heart bit" with the guitar wailing in the background is fucking awesome

honestly I dig the whole album except for maybe Made Out of Nothing (even that has the "it eats us like cancer, calling for something" bridge to redeem it). The Broken, Juggernaut, Far, World of Lines and When Skeletons Live are bonafide 'Heed jams

Skeletons is just the most notable victim of the awful production on that album

GIVE US THE MONSTAR is one of the dopest moments in the whole discog and the mix saps every bit of that right out for fucks sake

Alright, I'm doing it. YOTBR listen through starting now. I would call this my 2nd least favorite after TCBTS. I think YOTBR has worse songs but it has higher highs than TCBTS.

The Broken rules. I don't have a single complaint about this song. riff is cool, Travis has some good leads. Chorus is atmospheric. Bridge is great, Pennie's drumming especially. The Ring in Return guitar solo is great.

Guns of Summer. The "look, Chris Pennie is in our band!" song. the whisper vocal track in the background was utilized again during True Ugly, not sure if it's been used in any other songs. The verses aren't bad, the chorus isn't bad, but the prechorus ("no one will save us") is not great. Choppy transitions galore. Yeah. It's fine.

Here We Are Juggernaut. Top notch Coheed chorus. Verses just sound like they're trying to hurry up and get to the chorus, but that's just fine. Bass is a lot of fun on this one.

Far. I don't know what the general consensus is on this song, but I like it a lot. I especially like Claudio's harmonies in the harmonies. Also, is this where Coheed's obsession with half second verses started? I think The Broken, HWAJ, and this song have all done it.

I'll just edit this comment until someone else says something, haha.

This Shattered Symphony. This song is good, but it easily could've been better. I think if modern day Claudio recorded vocals on this he would absolutely blow this version away. The main riff is good, Chorus is epic sounding, but a shaky vocal performance brings this one down a little for me.

World of Lines. Love this one. It has urgency that a lot of the album is lacking, kind of this album's version of Gravemakers. Classic Claudio whoa ohs in the chorus rule. This is a cool line:
    You've managed nothing more
Than a pathetic attempt at attack
    But this heart is everlasting
    Pushing forward, never crashing

Ugh, Made Out of Nothing. Shakiest vocal performance Claudio has ever done. If recorded properly this one would be okay. Guitar is too choppy sounding in the chorus. Yeah, I'm not a fan.

Pearl of the Stars. I remember before the album came out, Claudio mentioned singing in a low register. I assume this was the song he was talking about. I like it alright. the line "but you don't, cause your you" is kind of cringey. Kind of bold to have two ballads on their shortest album up to this point.

Far is so so good man, one of their absolute best choruses imo

In the Flame of Error is an amazing song

This album is finally clicking for me after many listens. I think part of the problem was my expectations based on the singles they released. Dark Sentencer and the title track are still two of my favorite tracks on here, though I found some others I really enjoy after unpacking everything.

In the Flame of Error - Top notch song for this album. Love the driving nature of the chorus. Bridge is cool too.

When Skeletons Live - This was actually pretty good as the 1-2 punch to basically close out the album. I thought I liked this less than I did. post chorus has always been cool. Vocal distortion in the bridge is nice.

YOTBR - I like the atmosphere and melody of the verse, and I think I would like the "chorus" more if the lead guitar didn't sound so... noodley? I don't know how to describe it. Still don't like how long it goes and all it does is just layers more distortion. the repeat of One at the end is kind of weird. Yeah, still not a fan.

Overall, it didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth, and I enjoyed it overall. The only real problems are production (specifically vocal production), and they forgot how to have fun on this record. There's no Suffering, AFHA, Feathers type songs, which can really make it sound too serious sometimes. still probably a 3.5-4/5 album for me.

Man, I was listening to shuffle one day recently while driving and Skeletons Live came up and it had been a while since I last heard it. I forgot how fuckin wonky the production was on it, like god damn

Skeletons Live production is so weird.

and the "past remains the past until present" line may be Claudio's worst lyric

YOTBR: not the first nor last time Joe Barresi has half ruined a record from one of my favorite bands.
