We reach for the longest shadow

I think if there was a slower song like Mother Superior to break things up it would flow better. That's a fairly minor complaint for me though. Looking back on this album in a couple years, I'm pretty sure it'll be perfect to throw these songs on shuffle with the discog and I won't skip any of them.

Listening to SSTB now. How did this band write such good songs and have awesome production so early on in their career?

Eh. I don't think Cuts Marked and Three Evils are doing things too different, same with Blood Red Summer and AFHA.

It greatly depends on how you define it. IKS is my favorite (one of my all-time faves) and I have zero criticism at all related to it being too samey. I'm just pointing out that it all has the same production style, the majority of the songs have a similar emo-prog sensibility, many are in that 5-7 minute range, etc.

I fucking love all of that because I'll take a cohesive record that explores different facets of a unified musical theme any day. I just don't see UHC as being any more samey than IKS, even if it's not as impressive. There's lots of variety here.

... “cuts marked” is extremely different from “three evils” in structure and tempo

I was trying to figure out how to reply, but just read @christsizedshoes' response. They said what I was thinking, but explained it better.

Also saying this is too consistent and the songs aren't separating themselves after having the album less than a week (for me at least) and comparing it to an album that's been out for 15 years is a little silly.

eh but i think it’s pretty apparent from first listen and subsequent listens only emphasize how monotonous the pacing of this record is

    The Willing Wells >

This album is rad and after first listens it does feel kind of static but every time I listen something new about every song stands out more.

I think I'm going to crank this up and enjoy it for what it is before trying to place some crazy unrealistic expectations on it. I feel like it's very NWFT reminiscent in that regard.

Yeah I see a lot of people complaining about not being able to hear Travis, and while that might be true on some songs, you can hear him better here than on any record since YOTBR. He also co-wrote Night Time Walkers. I do wish his leads in the title track were a little clearer.

Surprised more people aren't talking about this one. Chorus is killer, but pretty unique compared to the rest of the album.

This album couldn’t have come out at a better time. I enjoy my Coheed in the fall and leading up to Halloween.

also no world for tomorrow fucking rules. i was gravely disappointed with it when it came out, just kind of felt like an anticlimax (though i must've listened to it a ton in college, i have the first seven songs memorized???), plus i am a josh eppard partisan, i think his drumming just works better with this band than anything chris pennie contributed directly or via taylor hawkins (though, given his reasons, i'm glad josh left the band and came back)

anyway, now i think this album rips shit. thank you passage of time

See my comment above about just cranking up NWFT and not over thinking it and just rocking out, haha.i want to see the neverender of it just to see what Josh would do on drums.
