That rant is embarrassing. The cast looks so uncomfortable. I read on Twitter that the audience started booing him and Adam eventually just walked off stage.

Okay, like my usually ritual I went to bed after the Kyle/Pete pretaped sketch and now watching the rest this morning. So usually I skip the musical performance since I’m out of the loop with who’s popular nowadays and the same goes with Kanye in terms of his musical output. That first performance... is he just trolling us now? Also, I couldn’t stop thinking of the milk carton from the Blur video:

5 bucks says either Lorne never said that and Kanye's just out of his mind, or Lorne only said it to get Kanye to stop bothering him.

 

I mean...KanYE has been out of his mind for a while now...

 

but either way fuck Lorne for having him on for controversy because any publicity is good publicity, I know they needed someone kinda last minute but he has a huge Rolodex

 

i mean lorne let trump host, i wouldnt doubt he'd consider putting kanye as a host. at the same time kanye is so unpredictable and cant really be coached so lorne probably realizes putting him on live tv for extended periods of time might not go over well.

 

Ahh yes we all know trump is so coachable. Fuck when trump hosted and fuck it if they let kanye host.

 

i mean in terms of snl trump is much more likely to stick to a script for a sketch than kanye is, who is likely to just stop mid-sketch and say something outrageous. fuck trump hosting, but for lorne's calculations having trump on as a host is less of a wildcard than having kanye on for an hour and a half of live tv.

 

I was thinking about this earlier today after seeing clips of the Kanye rant. I think for a show that has been going for over 40 years, Lorne is afraid of it going stale and revels in any publicity, whether allowing Trump to host or keep inviting Kanye back despite years of being problematic. Past and current cast members have said he encourages competitiveness in pitch meetings and the writers’ room, believing that produces a better show. That’s the type of boss he is.

 

Their process is really fucked up from everything I've heard and the show would probably be better if he was not involved anymore

 

It sucks but it makes sense. A ton more people are talking about the premiere now because of Kanye. I've even seen the cold open get shared a ton of times on Facebook timeline.

 

Matt Damon helps the cold open a lot
