Complaining about PR for the album doesn't make sense. They aren't making money off the album. All proceeds are going to charity.

As I said earlier it’s obviouslt partially PR, they couldn’t just drop an album out of nowhere. But the language I’ve seen use to invalidate the hard work Jenn put in to this article IS disgusting. A post in this thread literally called it fangirling. don’t think the article is perfect but god damn she’s clearly fucking trying to figure things out herself with all this

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is like Elsewhere. The only place you could get it is bandcamp.

Pinegrove have a pretty steady track record of donating, not just album sales but also merch. This isn't like a special one time thing for them.

I mean, would you all rather they just dropped an album without trying to formulate some sort of explanation for where the band is at currently after dealing with this for the past year? I feel like the fact that this article was release and the fact there putting out new music again should come as no surprise.

if you think this is straight up just a press release for an album, I have to ask if you’ve ever read an actual press release for an album

  11. would hardly say it’s PR.

They’re also releasing another record early next year on a label. I don’t know if that’s been covered in here yet

people donate to charity to continue being grimy all the time, just look at every fraternity ever. It's just to deflect any valid criticism of the shitty culture they promote because if you do that you look bad for attacking "a good cause". So even though it's obviously great the band is giving it all to charities it doesn't mean they aren't gaining anything from releasing the album.

Was this in the article? I must have missed that. Who's technically in Pinegrove currently?

PR = public relations, which this definitely is. Which isn’t automatically invalidating by any means nor does it mean it’s a straight up press release

Also I have no idea who is in the band rn

It was mentioned on *ahem* Reddit, so take it with a grain of salt. Seems believable though.

I don't even understand this. Are you even supporting the band if 100% of the proceeds go to charity?

On Friday, how about we all donate $10 or more to Voting Rights Project, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and Musicares, or any other charity aimed to help sexual assault victims. We can "buy" the record to support the charities, we can pirate the record and donate on our own, or we can ignore that the album exists and donate on our own. Regardless of any intent by those we cannot control, lets use this situation to create a positive in any way we can.

  19. It came from someone who 1000% knows what’s going on within the band. I’m assuming they meant to comment on a different account which is why it’s been deleted.

I think this is the wrong question, and draws attention away from the core issue. The conversation shouldn’t be focused on what does the guy I like who fucked yo have to do to be forgiven?, which will be different person to person especially considering some people had always defended him regardless. The conversation should be in focus on what is best for the victim, and how do we keep this shit from happening again and again and again.

    who can never be sure

i don't have fully formed thoughts on all of this. i'm only echoing right now, but SUPER disappointed in the people in this thread reducing the author to a fan girl. what a toxic reaction to a piece about reckoning, reconciliation, and the relationship between artists in power and their fans

    check yourselves.

Oh, weird, yeah I see that it was deleted now. Probably got back to the band and they asked for it to be deleted, which validates it even more.

maybe announcing the album via this article was a calculated move on the band's part, but the way the writer handled that part was graceful. It's mentioned halfway through the article, it's not in the headline or emphasized in any other way, and they immediately point out that some people are still uncomfortable with the release.

Well yeah I’m not actually asking “what can Evan do for you to forgive him”, gimme a break. I’m asking “what can he do to make things right for the victim in such a way that the public should be okay with them being a band again”.

I think I was one of the first people to of posted something that could be taken this way, that's not my intention. I don't know the author or their other work, I just thought a piece about reckoning, reconciliation, and the relationship between artists in power and their fans shouldn't include so many cute anecdotes about the person accused of the abuse of that power, especially when that time isn't taken out for anyone else involved in this story. It just felt like their was a clear bias to me and that left a weird feeling with me.
