The title track is really good too. But it's like songs like "Elephant", I feel like they could have written that song in a half an hour

Yeah I get that, I just really dig the soul in his voice when he sings in this style.

That being said I think the only song I don't really like so far is Who You Are Not. Every other song offers me something to like, except that one.

I think the opener might be my favorite song off the album.

I like it. I mean, the focus is definitely on Jason and it's not old school letlive. but I think it's a good album so far - halfway through on first listen. That might change but first impressions are good.

The start of the title track sounds like the start of the Lance battle in pokemon gold/silver

I'm genuinely staggered at the extent to which Jason's voice can't hold a chorus on this. I have no idea why - it's not through lack of talent - but for some reason he just doesn't. It's bizarre.

TBB was an album that could have been outstanding had it not been for the shoddy production. This is a pretty mediocre album that I hope to God doesn't get praised just because it's a bit different.

The twitter reaction seems pretty positive from what I've seen.

The most boring thing is when bands just stay the same. What if Radiohead only made britpop and never branched out. If you want chaotic Letlive you have 3 older albums to listen to.

This is nothing to do with not wanting them to change. It's to do with wanting them to write good music. And there's not enough of it on here.

Haha holy shit... I just realized this. Listen to "Foreign Cab Rides"... then listen to this:

Jason Butler was set to guest on THAT ALBUM, which leads me to be pretty confident it wasn't an accident. Probably an homage or with permission tbh.

Hard disagree. I think a lot of these songs are great for what they are. But if the criticism comes from people actually not enjoying the new direction, I can respect that. A lot of the complaints I'm seeing are THAT they changed at all.

My problems are definitely with the songs themselves and not that they changed their style.

Yeah, on here I think people have articulated their complaints pretty well. But elsewhere I've definitely seen the typical less heavy = bad arguments.

I will say though that I disagree with this mentality. Just because an album doesn't connect with you doesn't mean it won't with others. I'm personally still finding new things to like with each listen.

ah, that's always silly. I think it's always better to focus on what things are rather than what they're not.

Exactly. I feel like it's important to take into account what the artist is going for in addition to your own expectations as a listener.

Not connecting is one thing but if I think an album is nowhere near as good as it should be, then I actively hope it doesn't get lauded. Mediocre albums getting praised is almost as bad as good albums being criticised or ignored, simply because it gets in the way of people hearing good music. If people like this record then fine - it's not terrible, there's plenty of half decent ideas on it, even if they never go anywhere - but if I see press praising it to high heaven, I'm going to be genuinely frustrated.

Hey fair enough... I do understand this mentality. I'm like that with movies I don't like.

generally, all the press i've seen has been positive. maybe thats just because its the stuff being retweeted from the band

If everyone is praising an album it's not some grand conspiracy.

I've only seen smaller blogs review it. No big sites yet so who knows what the consensus is.
