I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you, but his record does have a lot of weird things about it when you look at it in context.

He was clearly a true Lightweight and could have fought at Featherweight, but he managed to rack up five losses at Welterweight and one at Heavyweight against Machida (lol). He avenged his one loss to Pulver, and I honestly thought he won the first fight with Frankie.

So yeah, I don't think he improved his legacy but moving up in weight and losing six times...but I do think it makes his record look worse than it otherwise should have. He fully dominated at Lightweight until Frankie Edgar...then he just went to shit.

100% poor coaching on that aspect. The UFC likely was tossing money at him to make the most exciting fights. When you look at what some on-the-rise fighter's opportunities are like now, Penn kinda was getting title shots and big name fighters handed to him no matter if he had won or loss at his last fight.

I don't deny him his talent, he's a stand up guy and a risk taker, something the sport needs atm. but I think his time has passed and I hate watching these older fighters getting pummeled by younger, stronger guys.

You have to look at BJ's record the same way you look at Couture's record. Both from a very different era, but total icons. It's crazy, BJ is 2-1 against Hughes(!) the #2/3 WW in history. Randy just knew when to leave(/get pushed out).

You're definitely right, it was a very different time when he was on the rise. I think his wins over Hughes are big part of why he's regarded as one of the best. But he also got stuck doing repeat fights that I think hurt his career. His record is nearly as many wins as it is losses at the moment, and when you do the breakdown of all 30 of his prof. fights, (Uno 2, Hughes 3, Pulver 2, Pierre 2, Edgar 3) more than a third of it was spent fighting the same 5 guys.

I know that Hughes win for the belt is part of his legacy but I think that was kinda bad for him too in that it made him think he could hang with Welterweights consistently. Hughes is the only person he ever defeated above LW, if I remember correctly. His LW record is phenomenal already but I think his legacy would be even MORE highly regarded had he not fucked around and racked up all of those losses outside his division.....and retired before the Nick Diaz fight.

Nick Diaz was a smart fight for him at the time, but that loss should've been a red flag for sure. Then Rory shutting him down as well, i'd say that would've been a glaring loss that should've made him consider retiring. A third fight against Frankie was just dumb.

Chuck didn’t even flinch when Tito tried to staunch him hahah. I did like Tito coaching TUF though was less of a tool

The MacLife? Is that a McGregor promotions ?

Yeah, Chuck's never been scared of anybody. Might not be able to beat em, but certainly never fears em. Especially when it's the dude he's famous for beating twice lol.

Phenomenal dream fight if Jones wasn’t such a shitbag over the years. Bigger than Tony v Khabib, bigger than GSP v Woodley, bigger than McGregor vs anybody.

I’m seeing a lot of people predicting that as the headliner for the MSG card

it would absolutely be a dream fight, even if I hate Jones

I just don’t want to see Cormier vs. Jones 3. I hope no one does

  14. I really think Jones is involved in the main event.

I’d love for it to be Cain. I feel like it might be Gus again. Also wouldn’t be shocked if it involved an interim title since the UFC loves that shit

I really wish you guys would shut up because I don’t think I can deal with this heartbreak if one of those match ups doesn’t come true. Haha.

  16. According to the USADA site Jon’s been tested 3 times in 2018. Same as Brock.

If Jones isn’t the main event hopefully they give an update soon

  17. Here’s a clip of Rogan at 228 saying MSG isn’t finalized and he “knows some things you don’t know so hold your breath”

  18. Here’s my fantasy booking scenarios

    Galaxy Brain: Jones/Cain, Jones/Stipe, Jones/Gus

“Holy shit they might actually do that”: Anderson Silva vs GSP. Anderson would be allowed to fight on that card, his suspension ends right before it.

    Reality: TJ/Cejudo

So apparently if there’s a card in Russia, dont bet on a guy unless he has a name you can’t pronounce. Seriously, pretty much all of the people I was familiar with lost. Haha

Woah. How many different people have been on this card at one point or another now? Should be a great fight but Anders has been showing up late in his last few and he'll get crushed doing that with Santos.

That was Hunt's first submission loss since 2010, which shocks me for whatever reason. It was Oliynyk's 45th submission win. Insanity.

Can't believe Manuwa withdrew. Made it all the way to Brazil and decided to go for a light jog...ended up tearing his hamstring (more than 50% tear, according to Ariel).

This is up there with Ferguson tripping over a cord, Chiesa/Borg getting hit by Conor's dolly, and CB Dollaway (and countless others) getting injured/trapped in the elevator in Cleveland the day before the fight.

  24. Brock popped back up in WWE last night. Has at least one more match with them.

Still getting tested by USADA but hasn’t signed a contract with the UFC yet.
