Number 7 on iTunes now. I sort of want to buy it just to help it along haha

First impressions. Most of this just felt decent to me but it’s honestly so hard to tell on a first listen. Genuinely disliked Everything Belongs. It sounds like a really bad/generic worship song. My Soul is beautiful and reminded me of Beggars era. The outro to A Branch In The River is fucking incredible as is that harp section on Blood On Blood. Beyond The Pines is v pretty.

Are you going to correct this?

    I do not exist.

I've bought Palms this morning and I'll post my thoughts after I've listened to it enough times. No plans to buy any of the rest of the catalogue at present moment (blasphemy, I know!)

I’m just surprised. A lot of crossover with some other bands I’ve seen you talk about over the years

Genric worship song in 7/4... hmm I need to go to your church I suppose

But seriously, time signature aside, I could easily see it being played in a mega church.

Yeah, it's actually very weird. I started very early with mewithoutYou (around 2003), started listening to Manchester Orchestra when I'm Like A Virgin came out but somehow and never branched into Thrice despite all these bands connected. I've also only heard one Brand New song (which I'm pleased about now). It is a bit weird as they've always been this huge band in the scene and played shows with each other.

I did decide to buy Major/Minor when that came out to see what they sounded like and although I gave it a fair chance, it never stuck and isn't something I've returned to a lot. Same with Dustin Kensrue's solo work (I have his Christmas release, which I do listen to quite a bit in December and Carry The Fire, which I haven't listened to much since the release).

I somehow totally missed their hiatus return but started following Dustin on Twitter earlier this year and can relate to a lot of his spiritual outlook at the moment. I started following this Palms thread two months back and thought I'd leap back in and give the album a go.

I'm enjoying it so far but only listened a few times.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

A Branch in the River sounds like a Death From Above 1979 song

  15. This is ok, but I’m not into it. I liked Branch and Hold a Light but other than that it didn’t click with me.

Not going to agree with the “fuck church” sentiment in here.

But you all already knew that.

Not a single one of these songs sounds worshipy, as I do associate most worship songs with the words “generic” and “lazy.”

None of these songs feel generic and lazy.

Kinda pissed KRM doesn’t have an active download code/link this morning. What boobs. Vagrant sent out downloads the night before because the vinyl where not going to arrive on the release day. KRM, you suck. Either way Thrice got three purchases from me since I downloaded it from amazon rather that wait for KRM.

  18. My initial thought is that this album feels slightly under realized. I definitely need to spend more time with it but each song feels very repetitive, which in itself is not always bad but I think this album could’ve been fleshed out more and possibly sequenced a bit better.

It kind of feels raw, like Beggars, which I find to be one of the best aspects of that album.

    Those songs explode live.

Just Breathe should have been a single instead of Only Us, damn that track rules.

Gave this a fresh listen this morning. I don't feel like this is an album I'm ever going to go back to.

We reach for the longest shadow

This still feels inconsistent to me. I absolutely love Only Us, Just Breathe, and Beyond the Pines, but A Branch In the River (unpopular, I know) and Hold Up A Light just bring the flow to a screeching halt for me. I wish it would pick a production choice, the mix of electronics and raw production don't mesh well at times for me.

The Grey grew on me a ton, so I'm going to keep listening, but I'm not hopeful. I really do enjoy TBE more than this right now.

Bought to start my first listen. Tempering my expectations because this is a top 3 band for me, and I really do think TBEITBN is a fantastic combeback album.

I've played the album 10 times now and I like it more on every listen. This one is definitely a grower

I just gave this album my first listen this morning and ya'll are wrong about Hold Up a Light, it rips and I'm so glad it made the cut.

Other early favorites: Just Breathe, Everything Belongs, My Soul
