I actually just picked up the Trillium Saison. The other Saison I had from then was awesome, expecting good things from this too. Awake is probably one of my favorite coffee stouts too

 

I've never had anything from Trillium or Night Shift so I'm especially excited for those two.

 

Good choices. Trillium does best at any type of "ale" and Night Shift does best at non-IPAs.

 

I found Twistin' Hay to be just about average or a tick above. Tapistry is a fun place and there's a cool article about all the breweries that are opening up in that are.

Interesting. What weren't you feeling about it? It's a ton of coffee and I'm not a coffee drinker outside of beer -- not a fan of hot beverages and I don't think iced coffee is that good -- but I thought it worked well. Had enough chocolate in it to make it an intriguing brown ale to me. I'll try it again soon, in July I think, on draft. Thought the mouthfeel on it was on point, too.

Always enjoyed the city of Frankenmuth, the brewery not so much. My girlfriend was given a groupon for dinner for two and a case of beer and really the only thing they had at the time that we agreed we could drink a case of was their Brown Hound Dunkel. The food is great over there, though.

 

I'm not really sure. I also don't drink coffee outside of beer, but I usually really like coffee or chocolate beers. And I usually like browns more than most people I know. To be fair, though, I drank it on an empty stomach and was extremely hungry, so I might not have been in the best place to enjoy a beer. I'll give it a try when I see it again.

 

Had the new Sixpoint beer; Puff. SUPER HOPPY, but bitter hoppiness, not citrus. Pretty solid. They're slowly becoming one of my favorite non local breweries. Got a few Two Roads brews at Craft Beer Cellar today, they're solid too.

 

I tried the Jalapeño Blonde Ale that was wild. Was full of heat on the backend and felt like i tasted the seeds. Would I drink it everyday? No, but I would go back to it. I'm not as exposed to heat in my beer but I like spicy things so this was different. I really enjoyed their Oh My Quad - quadruple ale. It was 11% and dangerously smooth.

 

Nice. Haven't had any of those offerings, though I'm not much for heat in my beer. I'll try it but i find it hard to finish a flight pour of a beer like that. I'm not into terribly spicy foods, though.

Let me know if you ever make it down to Lansing. Can give you a few spots to hit up. Lansing's in a bit of a beer gold rush since they went from basically nothing to like six breweries in two years.

 

My uncle said Traverse City was a booming hot spot for craft so I would like to hit that evetually. For sure, I'll let you know about Lansing. This trip has been great for Midwest beer since most of what I had we don't get near DC.

 

I just really enjoy Leinenkugel's. I've never been disappointed by them and that Cranberry Ginger Shandy is one of my favorite winter seasonal beers. I'm not a big lemonade fan because it's generally too much and too acidic so the Summer Shandy is great for me.

 

I've been away from MI for a decade now, so it's been at least that long since I've been to Frankenmuth, but Sullivan's Black Forrest made some great beers once upon a time. Their Winter Bock (which I had once but was never able to find again) was the best beer I had ever had at one point.

 

My hometown. And yes, there are a ton of breweries up there these days. I don't think I've even been to all of them, but I've had good to great beer at most of them. Right Brain is an especially fun place to hang out for a few hours.

 

I've heard a lot about Right Brain so I've been on the hunt to find their brews.

Oddly enough, I read that Traverse City is one of the top retirement destinations in the US. Not a bad place to retire being around so much brew.

 

If you can deal with crowds, it's the perfect place to spend a summer.

Rochefort 10

 

For sure. There's also great wine in TC, too. It's probably the most popular summer spot in the state of Michigan.

If you want to trade at any point, let me know. Right Brain doesn't put out too many beers into distro, though. What I can get right now is their CEO Stout (coffee stout), an IPA, an Amber (I think) and their Mangalista Pig Porter which a big, smokey porter made with a pig skull. They do a lot of adventurous stuff, but like Shorts brewing, for me they are very hit or miss.

with all the rain in orlando today, i'm a bit surprised i haven't had a beer yet. i've even been working from the house today.

 

Had an Abt 12 followed by a Rochefort 10 tonight. What a treat to have those beer back to back. Rochefort is the better of the two, but for price/volume, Abt 12 is great. Rochefort is just so world class.

 

Both of those beers are so fantastic. I got a couple bottles of Westy 12 from my cousin last year and she had me taste it blind against Abt 12 and I picked the Abt 12. I used the other bottle to do the same with a couple friends and also included Rochefort 10 and Ommegang Three Philosophers and Rochefort 10 won that one.

 

Iiiinteresting. I have a bottle of Westy in a cellar that was given to me. Whenever we drink it I'll definitely bring the Abt and the Rochefort. Based on my memory of the Westy I had earlier this winter, I think I liked that the most. But it was also 1-2 years old and stored properly which may've had an effect. The Westy, from what I recall, was obviously similar in flavor but the carb level was down a bit and that made everything softer, more lucious.

 

Definitely need to try Westy someday. Rochefort 10 is one of my all time favorites.

 

went to a local bar for lunch to grab some food, and holy shit, the tap list. Ended up drinking Funky Buddha's The Love Below and Wide Awake It's Morning. What a good lunch break!
