It makes me want to pull my hair out when people argue that women aren't interested in being a part of that industry and that's where the lack of women stems from. That's just not true. Women aren't given the same chances that men are in Hollywood.

  2. Same.

We aren't given the same encouragement, the same access to resources, the same opportunity, or the same welcome when we DO slog our way through the previously mentioned setbacks.

It is a miserable, discouraging, sometimes violent environment and then when women stop trying or quit it is used as evidence that we never wanted to be there.

Vis a vis, the guy who started this particular conversation.

the fact that there are people who think it's more likely that straight white men are just natural go-getting hardworkers than that there is a lack of diversity based on historical discrimination baffles me

Sometimes, that discouragement comes from your own family, which is even worse.

Agreed. Be prepared before reading. Very, very powerful letter.

I cried too. It makes me want to vomit bc her experience with victim blaming goes for 90% of rape victims. I couldn't have read that to my attackers face and that took a lot of courage. Cuts and bruises heal but the mental anguish is what drives people to suicide/self harm. You would think by now there would be harsher punishment but it's still a fucking joke.

  10. The psychological component is by far the part that does the most damage, the part that stays with you. I'm so sorry. You're not alone in this.

Damn. That was a tough read. So impressed by her/saddened by how awful and common her experience is.

What is so difficult about that is, it is merely an approximation of trauma. Survivors of assault can only partially make legible to others what they've experienced, but the depths of the devastation are beyond words. And it is part and parcel of a world in which violence against women can be used in marketing, where excuses are made for the institutional hatred of women.

Edit: And this, the privileged, white male is the face of rape culture. This is the threat. It isn't trans men and women.

It's kinda illogical how much safer I feel in the morning. Like rn it's sunny so late that it's the same amount of brightness as morning but something about knowing it's Night Time makes me feel way more uneasy walking around alone and stuff.

I'm actually curious about this, and is in no way coming from a fan or anything. Never actually listened to his music. But if FPS guy came out and admitted to what he did, apologized, and actually took some accountability, would people still be frustrated with him continuing his music career? Or is it the fact that he used his career as a means to do bad things, and then not owning that that's the problem. Sorry if this is dumb.

Anyone else, please come and correct me on any of this: but I think the idea is that he was/is a predator. He used his position of power to manipulate and coerce pictures/whatever from underage girls. This is not to mention all the abuse as described by Autumn Lavis. His continued insistence on being a part of the music scene is making it an unsafe place for young girls. He can own it and apologize sincerely and seek forgiveness or whatever but I really don't think there's a place for him in any music scene anymore.

Even a remorseful predator has no place being in spaces with access to people upon whom he can prey.
