‘True Detective’: Ray Fisher Joins Cast of HBO Anthology Series As Regular; Three More Set To Recur On Season 3

Bummer. Saulnier was one of the only reasons I was kind of optimistic for this season and assumed he was directing 4 of the episodes, now it's only the first two.

 

Trying to get some clarity on season 1 after another re-watch. To what extent were the Tuttles (Governor and his Pastor cousin) involved in the abduction/murder/ritual stuff? On first viewing, it seemed like they were covering the tracks of their evil family members for their own political careers. But after repeated viewings, they definitely gave Errol Childress access to all those kids via the schools and Tuttle kept those photos and VHS in his home safe. I’m definitely leaning towards them being actively involved. Am I missing anything one way or the other?

 

They were all involved, yes. To what extent - we don’t know.

 

True Detective s3 is much more like season one

 

well i'll believe it when someone outside the show says it but i'm hopeful.

It's got the True Detective things. I don't know, I liked Season 2, and I know I am in a very slim minority. Will keep coming back to this show.

Does this new season take place in the Ozarks? I’m really hoping for more of the creep factor and less about land, trade deals, and trains, etc.

 

I loved season 2, I don't understand the hate. Every time people trash it IRL they use arguments that are applicable to season 1:

- "The network of baddies is too obscure/tentacular" : season one's was even more complex, and that's what makes the show, imo.

- "It's too slow": It is slow, but nobody shits on The Wire or The Leftovers for this. Nobody shat on the middle of season 1, which was basically Rust and Marty running into dead ends.

I loved the atmosphere, I think there's a ton of intriguing stuff happening early in the season (the end of ep 1, the crow dude with the shotgun from ep 2 I think, etc) and that the ending is really intense, but to each his/her own.

Some lines were cringeworthy and some characters were caricatures of Ellroy characters, but that's what the whole thing was about, it was supposed to be a tribute to Noir police stories about corrupt officers and town officials. It wasn't perfect by any means but it wasn't a trainwreck either.

I'm excited for season 3, that trailer looks real good.

season 2 one of the worst seasons of television i can remember

 

It did give us Collin Farrell yelling at his son though

 

Yeah how anyone can say they enjoyed s2. I mean I get opinions, and all.
