Let’s take a minute for a Saves the Day bass player appreciation post. Rodrigo, Manny, and Eben are all fantastic and write some groovy shit.

 

I’ve never really gotten into these guys. Their first album was cool, but didn’t listen to much else.

Anyone else remember the pushback they got when IR came out in 2003? I don’t know if that was just on AP or really all around the scene but people were kinda flabbergasted. That album is perfect.

 

You should listen to this podcast episode of Modern Vinyl. They talk about the entire In Reverie release and all the push back and how it's now well loved. Very good listen.

My friends always played Stay What You are and Through Being Cool and I was never that hyped, seeing them live changed everything in my opinion of them. Plus in college I had a friend named Nick so I got to blast Through Being Cool daily. When a band just totally destroys your initial interpretation and you love them after it makes it totally worth it. They have a tremendous discography even though they were never my top 5 bands they seem to outlast almost every band as far as staying power. I'm always craving their songs here and there.

 

Chris has commented many times about the label didn't like the album and said some shitty things to him about their new sound. The blowback was really noticeable.

 

I definitely remember living through it

 

Speed of the music, vocal delivery and themes kinda changed. I think STD wanted to get big, but still had success. Lots of line up changes have actually led to a variety of different albums. I’ll be checking it out.

 

Chris just said it was a happy carefree time in his life when he wrote the album. It spawned something vastly different I guess.

‘In Reverie’ is still my least favorite.

They’ve done it better on other albums.

 

Oh man, in reverie is my 3rd favorite album of all time. I even have the dove tattooed on me haha. But out of every friend I know who likes the band, I’m literally the only one who likes the album and think it’s their best.

HEYY HEYYY EVERYTHINGS OKAY

 

Under the Boards is the first Saves album I spent a fair amount of time with. It was the most recent one out when they opened for MCS/SA (and wow it’s sad they are the last one standing from that tour including Valencia). So it’ll always be a little special to me. Can’t Stay the Same is up there with my favorites by them.

 

"radio" is basically a perfect song

 

Can't get into anything pre-Reverie but love everything after it.

 

I find it wild that some people never fuck with TBC or SWYA.

 

UTB has the HITSSSS

 

My top two. TBC is basically as good as that kinda pop-punk can get to me. Billions of bands have tried to duplicate it and failed. It's why bands that keep trying to recreate something like it now don't do much for me.
