    Nah it’s the app for sure there is an 11pm showing of hereditary at Alamo and an 11:55 rocky horror picture show and both showed up on the app earlier today, plus moviepass tweeted about having trouble with card check in currently

    Only e-ticketing theaters seem to be the only theaters having showings for anything right now

    I messed around and saw five movies in theaters over the past two days. Today was my first triple feature.

    I saw Ant-Man & the Wasp (6/10), Teen Titans GO! to the Movies (7), Won't You Be My Neighbor? (9), Leave No Trace (7), and Eighth Grade (8).

    I got 4 AMC within 25-30 minute drive for me. One of them gets a random film over the others. My closest AMC is 5 minutes away. Seemed too right to switch.

    Uh it’s 8AM and everything is at $6 surge right now for the day

    Yea, everything except Uncle Drew is peak pricing for me for the day.

    Hmm I'm starting to see what you guys mean now. It wasnt like this a few days ago. Every single movie from noon until 9 is surge pricing... even indie flicks

    That's fucked up. If you want to charge more for marvel and blockbusters...fine.... if you want to charge more for opening weekend...fine..

    But now you're saying moviepass doesnt apply on Sunday pretty much

    This is clearly a last ditch effort to try and convince more theaters ti join up with them because yeah... eticketing seems like only place with no surcharge (only 3 god damn options in the entire tri state area mind you)

    I find it hard to believe that this is more than an attempt to collect some cash / stop the hemmoraghing, but if anything I feel like they want to prove a point by showing that they can hurt the bottom line of theaters / mission impossible this weekend, and judging by the ticket sales for it here in Austin it’s not going particularly well.

    Yea, this is kind of super shitty now.

    I won’t be able to see new movies Thursday nights as I have done for years now. If I could pay peak pricing, I would need to see 2-3 movies a month to justify the cost, but it would save me some. But blocking out the big new release makes this all pointless. I just paid for Fallout out of pocket.

    The lamer movies that I don’t care about seeing release week still have peak pricing all day. Those are movies I wouldn’t see in theaters without movie pass, so paying even $6 is more than I would normally spend on movies like Skyscrpaer or Unfriended 2. Those movies are Redbox or Netflix movies to me. So while the peak pricing is cheaper than a full priced ticket (barely for matinees), I have never paid full price for those movies, so I’d actually be spending more than I normally would.

    My monthly charge is this week and I’m gonna let it go through in hopes they right the ship, but honestly I don’t think they’ll make it to the next charge after that anyway. As of right now there is no benefit for me.

  11. Maybevictor

    @maybevictor Prestigious

    Yeah I think there’s no point in jumping ship if I can squeeze one more non peak showing, but the way they handle weeknights this week will go a long way in helping me decide wether I let them bill me again or not. I hate that my opinion on the service changed so quickly but I’m really not a fan of how they chose to handle this weekend.

    Yea, they made a lot of changes this summer that have not gone down well but didn’t really impact me until this weekend. Since this is the first one that really negatively hit me, I’m foolishly willing to see what happens next. But I have a feeling this won’t suddenly go back to the way things were.

    At this point, I’m just waiting on Regal to start their program to jump ship.

  13. Maybevictor

    @maybevictor Prestigious

    Do we have any indication that regal has something in the works yet? I’m holding out for Alamo but think I wouldn’t mind a Regal subscription since we have a lot of those around here.

    Hypothetically a Regal employee posts in this thread and has dropped some “subtle” hints.

    yeah it's clearly "fuck we need more money" and instead of being like hey guys it's $25 a month now or whatever it's like a 10:00 showing of the The Purge is peak pricing now fuck you

    The movie I wanted to see at 11:25 doesn’t have peak pricing but it won’t let me check in on the app. Figures.

    Which movie? Noticed only MI and leave no trace grayed out so far but at his point wouldn’t be surprised if they grayed out more

    It’s weird that I have had zero surge pricing on anything this weekend. MI is grayed out of course.

    every movie's 10 am showing doesn't have price surging but everything else does but like I need my 3 hours to relax in bed before I go out??

    I guess I don’t understand the line of thinking anymore- of course they can impact the ticket sales, but what good does it do if they’re just going out of business next week? It’s not like any theatre chain is going to be like “oh no better send some money to MoviePass now that MI didn’t do as well!”

    My boyfriend and I are debating cancelling before the death knoll because I’m sightly concerned they will magically keep charging us and there will be no customer service at all to dispute with. We have a lot of travel plans lined up so even if they make it, i don’t think the 9 month ban would hurt us.
