Yeah pretty weird article at times. Pretty much stock answers from Mark about everything. (Write this chorus by the time I come back, 2 sides of California, band shoutouts etc). If it wasn't for the new photos I might think it was just copy and pasted from every other interview they've done haha.

I see someone already posted it but enjoy the pictures in better quality I guess. Haha.

    Things have changed.

Someone who's been tasked with writing about the band's first album without a founding member should be asking at least some questions about the departure of said founding member. "Tombot"? Seriously?

Hopefully this doesn't sound anything like Fall Out Boy's American Idol pandering pop trash American Beauty/ American Psycho stuff.

  5. I skipped taking a shower this morning to read THAT? The only "exclusive" info in there was that "Sober" was cowritten by Patty Stump.

    Fuckin Kerrang.

Either this or for whatever reason, when the guitar kicks in again after the bridge for "stay together for the kids" right before it goes into the last chorus

He made it a point to try and pry information out of them about Tom even /after/ he stated the band asked him not to. Just seems pretty weird to me.

    I am a haunted house. I'm superstitious.

At this point, I think they should just talk about each song on the album individually, just to tease us with something new.

I listened to it lately. It's got some great tracks. I love Watch the World. Holds up better than TOYPAJ imo.

The only thing that really frustrated me with the K! article is the fact that they listened to most, if not all, of the album, and they practically made it a footnote in the article. They talked about, what? Three songs maybe? I was hoping they'd tease us more.

Box Car Racer still holds up IMO. Really strong song writing that paved way for blink's untitled record.

So we'll talk about tom for about 5 paragraphs and then get on with the interview"

i'd rather read about Tom than generic, "this is the best blink album we've ever made!" (it especially rubbed me the wrong way when Skiba said it) and "this just feels like blink"

Actually, one of the bigger revelations of the article was that Sum 41's Dave "Brownsound" Baksh was recording something next door.

Edit: I guess it's a building for rehearsals. Who knows. Still found it interesting.

Wow awkward. Is there any mention of matts influence on the sound of the album?

Now I Know This World Isn’t Spinning Just For Me Prestigious

I respectfully disagree. I've liked most of what they've put out minus new again, and part of the self titled album. Still spin to this day. But that's the joy of music right, speaks to everyone in different ways and stuff you find terrible may mean the world to someone else? Always liked that about music; stuff I hate and think is garbage might mean the world to someone and speak to them on a level my favorite band does to me and vice Versa

It's hardly the reporters fault. Kerrang have clearly sent the guy out there to get some eye catching dramatised headline. Hell, when they had +44 on the cover the quote on the front was "Fuck Tom Delonge". They need to sell magazines and the age demographic who buy Kerrang love a bit of controversy.

Oh wow. Box Car Racer still sounds relevant to this day because of:
    - signature songwriting of Tom (that shaped Blink-182 sound, just in case you forgot that)
    - mindblowing production and sound
    - honesty and pain that Tom put into the album
    - amazing lyrics and narratives (Cat Like Thief... the best love song ever)

"It's a bad parody of better bands," - could you please share list of bands Tom ripped off? Quicksand, yeah? Or Fugazi? It's just funny, because you can say anything you want, but you can't say that Tom was/is ripping someone off. This guy, whatever he puts out now, is a music genius. He HAS a style, a style that cannot be reproduced by other bands without a "rip-off" label. It's not that hard to tell if you can actually imagine what it's like to write a song, what tricks can be used for this craft. Tom has his OWN tricks, just like Matt Skiba or Blake Schwarzenbach, for example. People now can be tired of it, OK. But it doesn't change a thing.

Also ALL popular hipster music NOW is actually a fucking rip-off of 70s/80s/90s bands. And no one is complaining. Because in general rock music is dying within so-called "revaivals" of whatever, emo, shoegaze, emogaze, post-post-post-punk etc.

On the other hand, Tom likes to say "this [BCR] has Quicksand vibe" just because he likes namedropping stuff. AVA is a "space pop punk", because Tom has added synths but the melodies were still the same. You can play AVA's stuff with different set up and you'll get Blink song. It's obvious.

  23. When Tom was saying in interviews that he wanted to channel Quicksand and Fugazi for BCR, I was beyond excited as they are both incredible bands that I've loved for a long time. But when BCR came out, I didn't really get those vibes at all from the music. All of that aside though, the Box Car Racer album and Blink's untitled album are the 2 best Tom Delonge albums, hands down. 2002-2003 was Tom's peak of creativity.

    Prestigious Prestigious

Definitely. I don't think BCR is a masterpiece by any means (mainly from some clunkers in the lyrics) but it has still held up really well. Letters to God still gets to me.

I will never hear a bad word said about BCR. It has all the aggression that AVA lacks.

As far as "rip offs" go, the funniest thing is how the intro to Cat Like Thief sounds like You've Got So Far To Go by Alkaline Trio.
