lol, yeah i think lots of songs in my library i can listen to and think "this kind of reminds me of this song the way the drums do this", and that is literally all i get with this

 

If 1 or 2 things were kind of similar, sure, your statement holds weight.

There are 5 or 6 distinct things between these two songs and I would challenge anyone to find me one other song that sounds like them as much if it's such a normal thing to happen.

I highly, highly doubt anyone could.

 

I’m not saying when I’m listening to This Is America I have that thought, I’m saying music in general. In my music listening it isn’t strange for me to come across a song where I think “man this totally reminds me of this”. Of course nobody is gonna post a bunch of songs that keep sounding the same as this is America lol.

 

Okay, then you're talking about something different. I get that there are multiple songs out there that have similarities. That's obvious.

I'm talking about how This Is America is way too similar to the other song to be a coincidence.

This is like the new yanni/laurel debate. I seriously don't hear any real similarities between the songs.

It's definitely not so close that it HAS to be a ripoff

 

Finally listened to the American Pharaoh song and I was surprised to know I've actually heard it before, but the Childish Gambino comparison actually never came to mind. Though now I definitely hear the similarities in terms of subject matter/delivery as well as the structure of the vocal performance, I don't think I'd call This Is America a rip-off-- just sounds like it could have been influenced by the Jase Harley song.

Not sure if these will be on the album because they were released as an EP called Summer Pack.

Both are much more subtle than I expected, but so perfect and ready for the beach.

Yeah these are definitely riding the Kauai vibes that I've been dying for, but would be glad to see them not on the album

 

I think I remember the song he performed on SNL had a beachy vibe as well, so maybe this is the direction he's heading in-- more of that lush, organic and wavy sound before the bass drops in This is America.

I admit that I miss the raps of old Childish, but I definitely like this more immediately than Awaken, My Love! which still hasn't clicked for me like it has with others.
