That's so shitty. That dude Awsten seems like the worst. Hope there's a lot of backlash towards him/Waterparks for it. Literally just a lyft driver trying to do his damn job

Dude is a fucking asshole. Arrogant and a complete baby. He threw his toys out of the pram for the record label making a tiny mistake, asked fans to abuse a politician and now this.

    Plus Waterparks are TOTAL garbage,

Brendon Urie having this to say during the same interview where he came out as queer is, uh, something...

"Here's where I draw the line. If the liberals are saying, 'Hey why are you fining these NFL players [for kneeling during the anthem]?' and at the same time, 'Fire Roseanne!,' they are doing the exact same thing that the conservatives are doing. I get it but we have to understand, yes, Roseanne made the worst tweet. But we're taking people's careers away. I don't know where to draw the line because I do think obviously that's horrible, but I think we need to look at patterns. If a person says something a few times but they are not acting out on it... it's a very sticky situation."

Yes, Brandon, players silently kneeling during the national anthem to protest police violence against minorities is the same as a comedian spewing racist hatred to her millions of fans.

    What a moron.

I'm hesitant to come down hard on people for saying something stupid, cause we've all said shit we regret, but how did he not catch himself saying that?

Because I am unfortunately into celebrity gossip as a weird hobby, this letter pops up a LOT in circles trying to prove that Brendon and Ryan were dating when Ryan was in the band. I have hardly ever seen discussion of it in any other context, along with the messages between Audrey Kitching and Jac Vanek about Brendon and Ryan's behavior.

While it does paint him in a problematic light (weird homophobia from Lana aside), I think it's important to remember that all of this was exchanged between teenagers growing up in the public eye. We have all done shitty things, especially as teenagers. I think it gets tricky because we all would find it exhausting to constantly apologize for every asshole thing we did as kids, but because he's in the public eye, I do think he has a responsibility to do that to some extent.

Sorry this isn't like a clarification or anything- just know that it's out there, people know about it, and it's mostly used by fringe fandom weirdos to prove that Ryden was real.

I don’t know anything about that letter, but I did see on Twitter an interview with Brendon — he talked about how Ryan used to hate how he’d kiss him on stage but he did it anyway. Called it “stage gay.” So he definitely has boundary issues, to say the least.

Yeah I remember seeing bits of it in like 2014 but just parts that were like ryden proof and what not, but it also seems tricky because it never reached a larger and more serious discussion due to the fact that she was bullied by the fanbase and such. Especially at the time the letter was put out in 2008 the general public really wasn’t discussing these in a serious matter unfortunately.

I remember a while back people talking about how Ryan had treated Keltie Colleen/Knight badly but usually didn’t see elaboration on it and like I said, was pretty young when it all happened so I was mostly hearing things in passing five years after

I dunno, a lot of that is pretty messed up but at the same time it also seems that he has changed a lot and he seems way more respectful. But at the same time, a lot of that is really messed up.

I would definitely be interested to see a retrospective from him- he was a kid, but when you’re growing up under the lens like that, I think you have to be a little more accountable for your actions because you have people looking up to you. Maybe it was all just shitty teenager stuff, but when a bunch of people participated in it and nothing is ever said, it sucks. I’d like to think most people who bullied girlfriends or exes of Emo band members in the early 00s feel sheepish or ashamed, so it’d be cool for Brendon to really lay it all out and talk about it.

I’m much more interested in Brendon discussing that bullshit quote from the Paper Magazine interview tbh. I don’t care as much about some dumb shit you did when you were a kid vs. shit you’re saying as a grown ass man with a HUGE platform.
