Duckfat in Portland is pretty awesome and delicious. Shipyard Brewery is cool because you don't have to go on a tour and they give you as many free samples as you like. Allagash is supposes to be pretty awesome too, I think you can get some of their rare releases at the brewery only. Just enjoy all the awesome food and drinks and walk along the water.

As far as Providence goes, check out Armageddon Records, and eat sliders at Harry's

  6. When I was in Providence for a day trip, we went to the Botanical Center which is nice if you feel like relaxing and walking around: Parks + Recreation | Botanical Center | City of Providence

Also ate at Brass Monkey which had great food & drinks and awesome music playing: Restaurant

Kind of bummed to miss some of Boston Calling, but I have a wedding that Saturday, and most bands I want to see are playing then.

My buddy got me into the private Sia show Thursday that Mix is hosting, so I'm pretty stoked about that.

No matter what you do, find Del's Frozen Lemonade in Rhode Island.

Providence your best bet is to make sure you go on an empty stomach and eat a lot. Tons of good food. It's a cool city overall but I think that its perks are more about going out than any real must see attractions. Julian's for brunch (awesome food and drinks), Tallulah's Taqueria, and basically any Italian place on Federal Hill are my favorite spots/recommendations. Federal Hill and College Hill are solid spots to walk around. Drink Captain's Daughter if you go anywhere that has it. I'll totally second Harry's especially if you are out and about late night.

Portland is a lot more scenic as you're right on the water and imo it feels a little more like a real city, too. It's a really good beer city if you're looking for that - Novare Res is great bar and for breweries Bissell Bros. is basically a must stop if you can hit them early enough in the day they won't be sold out. Allagash is also a good stop as they give a really nice free flight of samples and are in an office park with some other good breweries. Unreal lobster rolls all over the place as well. I'm way less knowledgeable about specific food spots there but you can't do seafood much better than Maine.

From your profile looks like you'd be driving up from PA? New Haven, CT and Newport, RI are worth thinking about, at least one could be tacked on to your Providence day and it might be worth it for the pizza/beer/beaches all of which are tourism level good.

awesome amount of information, thank you. I'll look into both Newport and New Haven. I'm going with my partner, and her aunt lives in CT (right near Hartford, I believe) so we're staying there for a night. and then we're making our way to Providence and then Boston for a night to stay with some friends. the majority of our week visit will be spent in Claremont, NH which is only two and a half hours from Portland so I figured I would try to make a day trip up there since I've never been to Maine. really appreciate all the information. and you're correct in thinking I'm driving from PA! driving from Philadelphia.

I vote checking out Harry's or Luxe Burger Bar (i'm a bigger fan of the latter), or grab breakfast at Kitchen...most amazing bacon you'll ever eat. Providence is neat, a fun club scene if you're into that...

Thayer street is fun, and it's got some good fast casual food, shops, and sights to see. I also highly recommend Roger Williams Park Zoo, it's a fun time!

    let's talk about food trucks.

Chicken and Rice Guys for me.

And Stoked Pizza have an amazing crust.

  14. Stoked and CnR are my two favorites. But for CnR I always just walk the extra couple minutes past Dewey to the restaurant. Moves way faster, dunno why everyone doesn't do that.

Other topic of discussion: My roommate's 21st is Saturday and we don't know what we're doing. Not into clubs. Nonzero chance it ends up being Border Cafe because margaritas. Recs?

  17. What area are you in? If you really want margaritas, my two favorite spots are Fajitas & Ritas in Downtown Crossing and Sunset Cantina near Kenmore. But my rec would just be hit up some nice bars in whatever area you're going out in, there are too many great places around for you to just go to Border Cafe (even though I do love Border Cafe).

Was anyone at Boston Calling last night? Snagged a ticket for 50 last minute. Sia was excellent.

  20. Went to Boston Calling Sunday only, had a lot of fun. The Front Bottoms are always great, and Vince Staples, Janelle Monáe, Disclosure, and Michael Christmas all killed it.

I walked by it on Sunday and it looked like a total blast! Wish I thought of getting tickets earlier..
