I've been a pretty big fan of American Aquarium for a long time. In general, I feel like BJ Barham has gotten steadily better as a songwriter and singer with each release, but I feel like he has made a huge leap with this album. I've only listened once but it is really damn good.

Yeah I used to jam it pretty regularly about a year ago but kind of forgot about him honestly

 

I had a chance to listen to American Aquarium's Things Change twice today. Album is absolutely incredible.

 

This American Aquarium album is fucking ridiculously good. I can't even.

 

Yeah it's really good. I'm not sure how I feel about I Gave Up the Drinking (Before She Gave Up On Me) though. That song didn't do much for me.

 

I think the first half of the American Aquarium record is considerably stronger than the second half, but yeah, it’s good. BJ’s best song is still “The Unfortunate Kind.”

 

Gold Star has a new album coming out in August and just released 2 new songs.

 

Sign me up for the American Aquarium Springsteen cover LP.

 

Any interest around here for the Sugarland album coming out tonight? The songs released so far have been pretty hit or miss (and just as feel-good cheesy as you’d expect from Sugarland), but they usually manage to crank out pretty good albums and a few really great tracks on each

 

Going to check it out later. New Dierks Bentley is worth a listen.

 

Sugarland’s album’s not bad. As usual it’s about half good half meh. I’ll try to check out Dorris tonight though. I didn’t even know he had a new album

Exciting news. I really liked his last album, but I’m not sure I love this new song. Something about the vocals sounds odd to me.

 

I like the song, but I agree that the way the vocals are recorded/mixed is odd. When you have a voice like that, you need to let it be raw. That’s what made Flatlands so great.

 

Very excited for new Ryan Culwell, Flatlands was excellent as was his Winter Wheat EP.

 

I wouldn't really call it country per se after hearing it, but I received my copy of the new Sons of Bill album "Oh God Ma'am" through PledgeMusic and it is fantastic.

 

Get to see Turnpike Troubadours in just over a week in DC (9:30 Club)

They never fail to put on a great show.

 

Ruston Kelly's debut is called Dying Star and comes out September 7. The first single, called "Jericho," is fucking great. It's a co-write with Joy Williams of The Civil Wars and Natalie Hemby.

 

This is so good.

 

Immediately jumping to the top of my most anticipated list.
