Reading this passage, and then remembering this video and how much he just absolutely crushed it, was my favorite part of the article.

Damn. That article got me a little misty-eyed. That record means a great deal to me, and I have vivid memories from the time around its release date. A small huddle of us in the old AP.net Punk Thread talked endlessly about the album all summer, particularly once it leaked early. (@CellarGhosts @alkalinexandy @AP_Punk -- I know you're all still around, miss you guys)

Wish I were able to fit in seeing one of the west coast dates, but unfortunately the timing is not good due to some personal family stuff. I hope they reconsider a full tour in the next year or two as the 10-year for Slang approaches.

I wish there was a similar article for American Slang. It'd be awesome to get a behind the scenes look at how they felt having to follow up The 59 Sound.

I'm sure I'll find more as I keep reading but things like the tidbit about Brian's '59 Bassman are what I love about pieces like this. It gives a very specific window into how an idea was formed.

I think when they inevitably come back, they'll work on it for as long as possible "underground" so that they can really prefect a new sound/theme. They'll drop a catchy af single and be bigger than ever. Mark my words.

I mean, whenever it comes up in interviews Brian is always quick to say "Well, we never broke-up."

They'll tour when it feels right, and we'll get another record... Eventually. Also when it feels right. Brian's said that they just want to be sure that they're pushing things forward but still maintaining the same vibe/style of the band.

Everything they've said indicates that it's a matter of when, and not if.

59’ Sound Sessions is out! It’s cool hearing these demos and seeing what they changed. I especially enjoyed how Old White Lincoln became a whole new song from just being a bridge of a song. That’s cool!

Only got about halfway through the '59 Sound Sessions before going to bed last night, but man they really had the title track locked and loaded from the start.

I have vivid memories of sitting in my basement and streaming the album via NPR and losing my shit! I must have been a sophomore in high school that year. Jesus.

I remember downloading the leak in my dorm room on like the last day of my freshman year of college. That thing leaked so early.

I hated American Slang when it came out lol. Like, refused to listen to it. Now it’s a gem in my eyes. Took me a little to get over the “what happened to gaslight being a punk band at heart???” Thing. I also hated here’s looking T you kid and blue jeans. I was dumb in college.

I just wanted fast songs, loud guitars and songs about radios lol. Now if i were to give a top ten list of favorite songs, Here's Looking At You, Mae, National Anthem, Halloween and Have Mercy might all be on it haha.

It was different and I feared changed haha. Idk, there was something about it that didn't strike right away. It hit my best friend HARD though so she just kept smacking me upside the head "try again. do it. one more. come oooon"
