I mean I think it completely worked and the second film is on an entirely different level in terms of what he was going for; however, I'm still confused as to why so many people are hung up with him changing around the story. As someone in here (or maybe it was somewhere else, idk I've been reading a lot about the franchise in preparation for this) said, I really enjoy the idea of taking the general framework or character of Michael Myers and attempting to do something new with him, like an anthology. I applaud DGG for disregarding parts of the sequels that he felt did not work.

With all of the piece of shit remakes that have come out and basically retread the same exact paths that the originals created, it was impressive to see Zombie rewrite the origin and delve more into the psyche of the character. It was even more impressive to see how weird and nihilistic and dark he got with the second one.

His Halloween films certainly are nowhere near as good as House of 1000 Corpses or The Devils Rejects, two of the better horror films of the past ~30 years, but they're still worth watching analyzing. I find them just as worthy as any post-Season of the Witch Halloween Sequel. Certainly the most artistically/atmospherically interesting since SOTW

I remember the marketing push for Zombie's movie was like "This ain't your grandma's Halloween!!" and "Rob Zombie's Halloween is gritty af!"

I've given the Zombie films more than one watch each. I only ever find more things I dislike. Certain scenes I found to be good and fit the tone of Halloween, like when Michael goes after Laurie's adoptive parents, but even that is flawed seeing as how Michael rips the phone from the wall, and then later Loomis calls and is able to leave a voicemail on a phone that isn't plugged in. :-|

Or what's even better, is that in an institution like where Michael was being held, they wouldn't ever give a patient who's being held for murder a metal fork to attack somebody with. But maybe that's just me.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

I have a real problem with the Director’s Cut version of the institution scene. I can hardly watch it. Just seemed completely unnecessary.

Just realized they gave away a character death in the trailer too, but idk what the person’s role is in the movie or if they’re important.

I saw potential spoilers for 4-5 deaths in the trailer, tbh

The older gentleman who’s grabbed from behind was def the most obvious and the 2nd that I think is a given, but I feel like he’s not a prominent character. The other somewhat surprises me given the apparent person’s age. <- I’m trying here folks.

The gas attendant and Toby Huss’s character were explicitly shown.

The main girl’s friend who wears the yellow long sleeve and shuts the door on Michael is partially shown bloodied on the ground.

In the bathroom scene, Michael seems to use the British guy’s head to bust open the stall door. It can be assumed that the girl dies there too, as he is able to get his mask

The middle part of your post is what I caught. Her shirt color gave it away.

Just did the same thing, cause for whatever reason I didn’t really catch that yet. You can pause frame and see that it is most definitely him. What is weird though, is that in the following frames while he’s trying to grab her out of the stalls, his body isn’t anywhere near the stalls on the floor, or even in the bathroom really. I’m thinking maybe Michael kills him in that manner we see very quickly, but it’s in where he finds the dead mechanic. Collects the teeth after, then goes in the bathroom with them.

Also (since I’m at work and it’s super slow) here’s all the nods to other Halloween movies I was able to catch, or at least think are nods.

-Flashes of stencil drawings and images of Loomis and Michael, as well as crime scene photos. (H20, opening credits)

-Mental patients in white garments wandering around in the dark as a car approaches.(H 78’ beginning)

-British documentary guy finding the dead mechanic at the gas station they stopped at. (H4, Loomis does the same)

-British woman’s bathroom scene. (H20, closely resembles the bathroom stall sequence where Michael steals the car keys)

-Kids walking into Michael by accident on the sidewalk. (HII, the boom box kid walks into Michael and it’s the exact same sound effect)

-Sheet with the holes punched out for eyes on a corpse or maybe Michael. (H 78’)

-Michael stepping into frame sideways in the doorway. (HII, when Laurie is crawling to the hospital doors)

-Laurie calling out for Michael to find her. (H20)

-Michael turns his head to the right to watch the kids going to a front door, and you can see a hole in the neck of his mask. (H 78’, when Laurie stabs him with the sowing needle)

-The girl opens her closet door, Michael is standing there, and then he lifts up the knife. (H4, Jamie does this when she’s having a nightmare)

I believe somebody said they saw a reference to III, but I have no problem admitting it’s been over a decade since I revisited that movie and didn’t catch it.

I am gonna listen to this to bide my time until this drops. I just started the Losers Club podcast and it's the same guys who do Halloweenies.

I’ve been listening to these ones lately. Pretty fun. I think they liked the sequels (2 through 4 anyway) way too much. They talk about Donald Pleasance like he was a big name movie star. He was a mid-level character actor who is primarily known to the masses as Loomis.

Wasn’t it a pretty big thing when they got him for 1 though? I thought i remember hearing Carpenter say it helped legitimize the movie having his name attached.

Yeah as far as I know pleasance was a big get. I also appreciate his character a great deal despite all the melodrama he brought.
